I’m a numbers guy. What you see here is a small clip from one of my many spreadsheets🤣 I love tracking progress to understand if I’m meeting my goals. The goal I had set for myself back in January was to hit $1M in sales. 7 months in and I was able to do just that. Here’s 3 lessons I’ve learned from setting this intimidating and lofty goal: 1) Set big goals AND the steps on how to get there. I always had some doubt in my mind that I wasn’t going to achieve $1M in sales in a year, but breaking down the steps gave me a clearer direction and confidence that it was possible. 2) Know what works and doesn’t work. This seems obvious, but you must TRY before knowing. Some won’t try at all, but if you do, that’s how you learn. You can only get better the more you try. 3) You’ll always want more. This is what surprised me the most. I thought I would be ecstatic hitting this milestone, which I am, but now in my mind I’m thinking, “well why not $2M?!” Celebrate the wins and use the momentum to kill limiting beliefs. Wednesday August 1 The value of Goals New month often means new goals. Especially for my friends in sales, much respect to you all as last night was month end, and this morning...it all starts fresh again. For the rest of us, why not follow suit? Just like January 1 allows us to set "resolutions" - the ways we will be better in the coming year -- a new month or quarter lets us hit he reset button a bit. Take the time each month to reset some small goals! Benefits? Reset your focus on nagging problems. Establish metrics or goals that are attainable and celebrate your successes. Create a month over month momentum that can carry to quarterly and annual wins. Goal setting doesn't need to be an annual event. Some do it weekly and other daily. Crazy right? My suggestion this morning is to use the new month as an opportunity to set a few new goals.... just for this month. Let's see if we can create some momentum! A message for all salespeople out there: it might be quarter close for you and your company but that doesn't matter a damn to your prospects or customers. Nor should it. They're working to project timelines. They're focussed on problem solving and getting value for money. If it takes until next week to make an informed decision, so be it. Quarter Close is an arbitrary date, dictated by a calendar which was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. In a world of value creation, the Gregorian month end is a meaningless milestone. There are two way you can make Quarter Close matter to your customer: offer discounts or create meaningful value. Offering discounts is short-term thinking, diminishes the worth of your solution and doesn't create any sustainable competitive advantage. Creating Value isn't easy, but it will convince your prospect to change, to change with you and to adopt a sense of urgency in effecting that change. It will also lay the foundations for many years of valuable engagement. Today is the last working day of 2023. On Tuesday next week, for the vast majority of sellers out there, the clock gets reset to zero 0️⃣ and the game starts over 🗓️. Don't wait for the invite. Write them up in an email and request a follow up 1:1 meeting 👂🤝 ⚠️ Issues around marketing and demand generation? Bring it up. 📢 Concerns about how your time is wasted, doing non-core activities? List them all down. ⚙️ Gaps in your solution portfolio, where you're getting hammered by the competition? Highlight them. Ask your sales leader for help in moving these obstacles to the side, allowing you to move on and over-achieve against your target 🏆. Now is the time to do it ⏱️ Not in July, when the year is half cooked. Why? Because by July, this sounds like a list of excuses from a weak seller. In January it's a constructive call for help. It gives your sales leader a short list of actions to empower their team and drive results. It also gives you the opportunity to see if your sales leader has your back. Do it today. You won't be sorry.

Happy New Year! New year vibe? Determined. Last year had a lot of ups and downs. Was one of my best sales years ever, got to work with a bunch of really cool people. Took a couple big losses as well, that was painful. Losses don't have to be the negative though, you can learn from each loss. I sought what I could do better, instead of focusing on blaming others. I finished my personal reflections on the year last week and started looking forward for my new goals. Top goal - understanding LinkedIn and sharing more insights/content.
