More than 20 pedestrians per day die on American streets. Cities are implementing Vision Zero plans, building sidewalks, and redesigning deadly streets -- but we cannot fully address the traffic safety crisis without evaluating all aspects of the transportation system. Americans’ cars and SUVs have gotten bigger, heavier, and deadlier. It’s past time to take a comprehensive look at how vehicle design has changed and how the federal government–from Congress to NHTSA–can ensure that the vehicles on the road are designed for safety. https://lnkd.in/eGKyivAU

In this new article, https://lnkd.in/eGKyivAU, Vox writes that it’s time to rethink what counts as a “safe” vehicle in the United States, amidst the rise of pedestrian injuries and fatalities due to large, low-visibility vehicles. The statistics are troubling, according to a new report by Smart Growth America: Pedestrian deaths have increased 75 percent in the US since 2010, reaching a 40-year high in 2022. To address this disturbing trend, Congressman Jamie Raskin and the US Government Accountability Office announced this week they are working together to conduct a new review of U.S. vehicle safety design standards and their effects on the safety of all road users, including issues of direct/high vision and its impact on road safety. Read TSR’s statement on this at https://lnkd.in/eKQbWxQe and Rep. Raskin's letter to the GAO at https://bit.ly/4b3bz0O. I’m glad to share that the proposal paper called “Learning from the skies: assessing the critical decision making common ground in aviation emergencies” has been accepted at 22nd Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association 2024 It was an intense work of collecting information and analyzing decision-making in go-around event. Thanks to the co-authors Bemildo Ferreira and Moacyr Machado Cardoso Junior, PhD. to advisoring and contribution. Personally, this article made me think about how big is the variation in decision-making in a same context. To learn and discuss about safety, the knowledge about human behavior and its interaction with the environment is a very important issue.

Goosebumps - when did you last get them? ✨ If you've ever seen this iconic scene in Titanic, you know the feeling. This video was shown during a masterclass at Brandminds to feel on our skin how it is to have goosebumps and to explain better that branding isn't just about products. It's about creating emotions, memories, and feelings. It's not all about money but how we make people feel. 🌞 Some other great takeaways from the event: 💡 Instead of asking for feedback, ask for advice and be open to questions 💡 Cultural differences can be challenging, but clear and open communication helps us overcome the problems 💡 Our lifestyle choices can reverse aging 🤲 I'm so grateful to have been part of such an inspiring event. https://lnkd.in/dFndxaaS

Crash tests: new truck fronts show potential to save lives Today on #RadioSweden (Sveriges Radio), Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and Vision Zero Academy’s Rikard Fredriksson is interviewed on #crashtests involving a new truck front prototype. The new truck front is softer and longer and therefore absorbs the energy better in head-on crashes with passenger cars – which today often result in fatalities. In the radio feature Rikard explains the potential this new truck front has to save lives. Head-on crashes with #heavytrucks are one of the biggest #VisionZero challenges, as they are overrepresented in the statistics on fatal road crashes. Heavy trucks represent only 6% of the mileage on Swedish roads, but they are involved in about 20% of the fatal crashes. The prototype truck front is currently being developed at Chalmers University of Technology.
