The 11th edition of OMFIF’s Gender Balance Index lays bare the story of equality in financial institutions. While there are more women in senior positions across central banks and top financial institutions this year, only 14% of the 63 institutions with new governors or chief executive officers in the index appointed women to those roles. We are very proud to work with an organization that places a high value on gender equality and strives to cultivate a progressive and open-minded culture. Canada's first female advisor, Ellen Ripstein, spent a good part of her 65-year career working for CIBC Private Wealth, and CIBC continues to be a company that supports and encourages women in the male-dominated investment industry. We are also proud to work with the female members of the Popowich Karmali Advisory Group. Each brings a valuable perspective, background, and skill set that helps make PKAG one of the most well-regarded investment teams across the country. Finally, we are proud of the relationships we have with our female clients, each with a unique story and financial situation. We work with women who are the primary breadwinners in their home and can describe their finances in detail and without hesitation, including what they are invested in and why. We work with female retirees who, for one reason or another, find themselves embarking on this next stage of life alone. Some are getting their financial ducks in a row before taking the leap into retirement, while others are learning to manage their money solo after going through a relationship breakdown. We also work with women who have entrusted all aspects of money management to their partners since the day they got married. Some of these clients are now facing the daunting task of taking control of their finances after their spouse has passed away. Regardless of their situation, it is one of the most fulfilling parts of our job to help empower our female clients to make the financial decisions that are right for them and for their families. Here are three of our core values that help us achieve that goal: Partnership: We know that finding the right advisor can mean the difference between feeling intimidated and feeling confident when it comes to your finances. In an industry where women may have felt unheard or like their opinion matters less than their male counterparts, we want to provide advice that will help them feel confident, proud, and even excited when it comes to their investment decisions. Education: We believe that financial literacy is important and we're committed to helping our female clients have a good understanding of their money. We take the time to clearly communicate our strategies and don't think there is such a thing as a stupid question. Personalized support: There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes to investment strategies. Each of our clients deserves to receive advice from someone who has taken the time to understand their current situation and their vision for the future. We know there is so much more to be done to when it comes to gender equality, particularly in the financial industry, and we are proud to do our small part to make a positive impact.

International Women's Day (IWD) and female financial literacy are two topics I am intensely passionate about. This #IWD, these two causes converge with UN Women Australia’s call to COUNT HER IN. While yesterday's announcement of Superannuation to be paid on GPPL from 2025 is undoubtedly a win, based on current rates, that is approximately $2k contributed to super over the twenty weeks. Assuming a year was taken off work, no Company Parental leave provision or paid leave taken, and the mother was on the average Australian female salary in the private sector of $86k, she would still have a deficit of more than $8k contributed to her super that year. By retirement age, that $8k could impact that woman by six figures. Plus, the immeasurable cost of the loss of access to promotional pathways and skill development that could lead to increased earning capacity. My own journey into solo parenthood was my push to do what I could to close the super gap left by my absence from the workforce. Employers, leaders, businesses, Governments and individuals all have an obligation to ensure women and girls are given equal opportunity to build their capabilities and strengethen their capacity to learn, earn and lead. #IWD2024 #countherin #unwomen

Should we prepare for a 100-year life? Recent studies have shown that women tend to outlive men by 8%, and with life expectancy doubling over the past two centuries, it's becoming increasingly important to prepare for the possibility of living longer than any generation that came before us. The impact of part-time work and career breaks for caregiving on our pensions is significant, highlighting the importance of financial literacy and planning. We can't afford to leave these matters to chance or wait for systemic changes (which we know isn't coming fast enough!).
