𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮’𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚? Companies can greatly benefit from corporate activism and more and more organizations are looking to impact significant societal problems, authentically. However, it is crucial for them to balance social impact with core values and productivity. Martin McEvoy, Managing Partner Signium Ireland believes that apart from organizational purpose, there is an imperative for all leaders to lead with fundamentally good values and to look at the human issue(s) first with genuine empathy and the organizational requirements second. He says: “You will find that as well as ‘being the right thing to do’, this is a much more powerful way to motivate all colleagues to contribute to the collective success of any enterprise or body.” Ken Bowles, Global CFO of Smurfit Kappa (a client of Signium Ireland), said in a recent leadership interview: “You can work for an organization or be part of an organization…...You should be able to look back and say I’ve done some good and that isn’t just the top or the bottom line…...it extends to the team and community around you”. 📣 Important DEI Message from our President & CEO, Mike Brown📣 Recently, Mike shared a powerful video during our Leadership Town Hall, addressing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our organization. His honest reflections on DEI, personal experiences, and the importance of acknowledging privilege offer valuable insights. It's crucial for our team to understand and engage in these conversations. DEI is more than just representation; it’s about valuing our diverse backgrounds and cultures. As we move forward, it's vital for everyone to contribute to these initiatives. Let's join hands in this journey, stepping out of our comfort zones, engaging in open dialogues, and becoming a national example in DEI. Watch the full video for a deeper understanding and join us in shaping our future. ED Assoc. of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors / Co-Founder Koppa Lab/ Advisor to Fortune 500 / Fmr World Bank & UN Human Rights Staff / Adjunct Georgetown University / Editorial Women's Forum / Board Member
Some interesting #LGBTQ+ findings from the 2023 U.S. Spencer Stuart Board Index Less than 1% of all S&P500 Directors have self-identified as LGBTQ+. However, among the one hundred and twenty-four boards (25%) included LGBTQ+ disclosure in their proxy statements (up from 103 in 2022), 7% had an LGBTQ+ director, amounting to 4% of Board seats occupied by LGBTQ+ people. In other terms, only a fifth (1/5) of S&P companies voluntarily disclose the sexual orientation and gender identity of their Directors. Within the companies that made that choice, meaning companies the most likely to have #LGBTQ+ Directors, only 4% of directors are LGBTQ+. It fits our assessment that overall #LGBTQ+ Board representation must hover below 1%, similar to the Association’s findings on Fortune 500. Now, because the S&P500, the stocks of 500 of the largest U.S. companies by market capitalization, tends to be under greater scrutiny, we can imagine that representation is lower in other public Boards and certainly among private boards. #Governance #BoardDiversity #Representation https://lnkd.in/eCrtvrw8

Promoting allyship in the workplace to ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and belongs | Forbes Contributor
Despite the perceived pushback on DEI, organizations are staying committed to diversity and inclusion long-term (notice the uptick on equity). Remember, the loudest voices are not the majority. The majority of people support diversity and inclusion. Don't let the loud minority take away from the great progress DEI is making. #diversityandinclusion #allyship #leadership
