Do you know about Prologis’ Mobility business? They’re making it possible for our customers to electrify their fleets. Here’s the synergy: heavy-duty trucks spend a good amount of time at the warehouse loading and unloading. Prologis Mobility makes it possible to charge within that window (we even do it beyond the warehouse too). They just announced their coolest project yet – here’s the link to read about it:

Rapid Zero Emission Truck (ZET) adoption is the objective, with the number of trucks in that category surging in 2022-'23 compared to the previous two years, according to CALSTART. ZET deployments reached almost 18,000 vehicles in 2023, representing a 10x increase over 2021 levels. As the visual below shows, a roadmap for the infrastructure to support these trucks is already laid out. Naturally, it focuses primarily on key ports and cross-country routes that will open up the path to decarbonizing this emissions-heavy sector. This makes news of $623 million in Charging & Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) grants awarded today especially welcome. One of the projects, a $63.8 million award to New Mexico Department of Transportation and TeraWatt Infrastructure, will bring heavy-duty charging to a key freight route in the state. "This accelerates the transition to zero-emission transportation and will enable an accelerated buildout of the I-10 corridor," says TW's Neha Palmer, and marks one of several awards aimed at galvanizing electric freight transportation. Read more on that project via the link below and see the latest CALSTART report on ZET deployment progress here: https://lnkd.in/e5VQCJnq #ElectricTrucks #FleetElectrification #EVcharging

Prologis is teaming with Performance Team, a 3PL arm of container shipping giant A.P. Møller – Maersk A/S, to launch Southern California’s largest heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging depot. Located near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the depot will be powered by the nation’s largest EV truck microgrid, the partners announced. The “Denker charging depot” will have the ability to charge up to 96 EV trucks simultaneously, supporting Performance Team’s fleet of Volvo VNR Electric trucks, which have a range of 240 miles and can charge up to 80% in 90 minutes. The move comes against the backdrop of California’s requirements to end the sale of diesel trucks and move to electric drayage trucks by 2035 and to electric heavy-duty trucks by 2045, they said. That policy is pushing companies operating in the state to invest in charging infrastructure to support those operations, and it is pushing state utilities to upgrade the electrical grid to support the added load. However, those improvements take time. So for this project, Prologis installed specialized charging infrastructure to get the depot online quickly, rather than waiting up to two years for the grid upgrade. Specifically, Prologis partnered with Mainspring Energy to build a microgrid, which is any small network of electrical generators and loads that may be grid-connected but is capable of operating independently of the local grid. The Prologis Denker microgrid uses 2.75 MW of fuel-flexible, hydrogen-ready linear generators paired with 18 MWh of batteries to provide up to 9 MW of charging capacity.

The Powering America's Commercial Transportation (PACT) coalition of major truck manufacturers has just launched, evangelizing and working closely with other major stakeholders to accelerate the building out of the charging & refueling infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs). PACT includes five of the top seven U.S. Class 8 brands by sales, including Daimler Truck North America, Navistar and the Volvo Group. The International Council on Clean Transportation estimates that nearly 700,000 chargers will be needed nationwide to handle the one million Class 4-8 ZEVs expected be on the road by 2030. Getting there will require tight coordination with utilities and regulators to make the necessary electrical grid updates, and capital & charging equipment investments. #evfleets #charginginfrastructure #zeroemissions #partnership #industryleadership
