Selfless service (or in Hindi - #seva) is a guiding principle in my life. I feel so fortunate to work for a company that also values service to others, particularly by coordinated efforts both financially and through volunteerism, to support our local non-profits. Can someone pinch me? Is it real life that my job is to create engagement opportunities for our employees with great missions across our city?! This past month, Bison collected over 1400 items to donate to Infant Crisis Services, and also have in-person volunteer opportunities to look forward to in the near future. Sharing for a few reasons: 1. I am proud of our Herd and love my job. 2. ICS is an incredible organization serving our littlest community members and their families. Aim to provide a multi-faceted approach so all members of your workforce can contribute to your service efforts in ways that are meaningful and appropriate (depending on their specific circumstances). 4. There are many worthwhile charities. Like many of you, I am very focused on return on investment. Whether it’s a return on my time, attention, finances etc. That’s the way I look at charities and this is one of my favorites. So, allow me to bring it to your attention. Hopefully, you will consider sharing your resources and/or share the post so others can be aware. Note: Donations as small as 25.00 can feed a child for an entire school year and overhead costs are kept under 7% to direct funds efficiently. Mary’s Meals provides life-changing meals to some of the world’s poorest children every school day. It’s a grassroots organization has a beautifully simple model. by offering one nutritious meal in a place of learning, children are nourished enough to concentrate, giving them the chance to lift themselves out of poverty through education. Founded in 2002, Mary’s Meals is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus. Respecting all faiths, this charity is all about reaching and serving children most in need. Their vision is that every child has the opportunity to receive a daily meal and education. They operate school feeding programs in 19 countries and reaches over 2 million children globally. Through local partnerships, community volunteers help prepare and serve the meals, fostering sustainability and care. True to their no-frills approach, overhead costs are kept under 7% to direct funds efficiently. Every month it takes a minimum of $500 to feed these children. That isn't a balanced diet, but rather a simple cornmeal, rice, and beans. Ever thought about girls who have to skip up to 50 days of school each year, because they have no period products or hygienic facilities to use at school? Period poverty is a topical issue across the globe. In Australia, various state governments have recently committed to providing free period products in public schools. According to Feeding America, 33 million people in the U.S. are food insecure, 49 million turned to food programs in 2022, and 100% of the counties in the U.S. have food insecurity. And that’s not all, millions of Americans are faced with choosing between food and other crucial needs like medicine and electricity daily. Each September, the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks joins together for an annual national campaign designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States. Feeding America's Hunger Action Month provides an excellent opportunity for people to get involved in fighting hunger. This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage individuals to take action. Throughout the month, various events and campaigns are organized to promote engagement, such as volunteering at food banks, donating to local food assistance programs, and raising funds to support hunger-relief efforts. By participating in Hunger Action Month, individuals have the chance to contribute to a collective effort aimed at ending hunger in America. Alongside Feeding America, we can create a powerful alliance to tackle this pervasive issue and provide a platform for people to make a tangible difference in their communities.
