The U.S. Treasury's decision to expand the 45X tax credit to include minerals extraction and processing marks a significant step forward for the U.S. critical minerals industry. By recognizing the essential role of mining in building a secure, clean-energy supply chain, the new rules will support the domestic production of vital minerals like lithium, which is crucial for the energy transition. IBAT welcomes this shift, especially given the expansion would be a boon for DLE operations like ours, which include processing facilities. As the race to secure U.S. lithium supplies intensifies to keep pace with increasing demand, this tax credit will incentivize investment in domestic extraction and processing technologies, furthering innovation, building supply chain resiliency and reducing reliance on overseas competitors. https://lnkd.in/gMkqXYZW

New #coalmines could deliver zero #royalties and a #methane headache for #Queensland. 💲 The Queensland #government is banking heavily on #cokingcoal in the hope of extracting big royalties, with recent production figures suggesting a deceptively positive outlook for the sector. Queensland produces ~90% of Australia’s #metallurgicalcoal exports, and coal is one of the state’s largest #economic contributors. 📉 However, recent earnings results and the Resources and Energy Quarterly forecasts point to worsening market conditions, which raise questions about the economic case for multiple mine expansions in progress. 🤔 New #mine expansions cast doubt on the government’s plans for a 75% cut in #emissionsreduction by 2035, given coalmine #fugitiveemissions have risen 36% from the 2005 baseline so far. Check out the latest analysis from Energy Finance Analyst Andrew Gorringe. IEEFA Asia Pacific Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/en-imxSA #Australia #exports #coal #mining #finance

Governments worldwide are prioritising energy security over reaching emissions targets. The political pendulum is well and truly swinging the other way, with the federal coalition changing its stance on reaching net zero targets by 2030 and instead raising the importance of installed base load power, which could include #coal and #gas, during the transition process. #auspol #mining
