What a wonderful way to spend valentine’s day….. sharing my love for law and personal injury with the next generation of potential lawyers taking part in Irwin Mitchell’s Prime Work Experience. Takes me back to my own school year book in which I wrote that my dream was to become a lawyer. Some of the advice given: 1. Take your time, its not a race. 2. If possible try to gain experience in different areas of law to see which one draws you in. It might be something entirely different to your initial thoughts. 3. Be prepared to graft and make your own opportunities. Do not be afraid to contact firms asking if there is a little work experience you could undertake in your school holidays. 4. Expect knockbacks or even no replies but dont give up. The next contact might offer you that break you deserve. 5. Don’t be afraid to make connections on linked in and ask if they mind having a short chat with you about their job, how they got there and any tips they might be able to give. 9 times out of 10 people will gladly share their knowledge and experience with someone who shows an interest. 6. There are so many routes to quality now, explore them all and choose the one which feels right for you. Great session today as I directed the programme for King Cetshwayo District Life Orientation Teachers Seminar, thank you University of Zululand. The conversations and input made clear how important it is to fortify the Department of Basic Education's and Institutions of Higher Learning's increasing symbiotic connection. It is necessary to intervene in grade 9 before choosing subjects for grade 10, rather than delaying career counselling and subject selection until later in grade 12. Among the many insightful ideas were psychological interventions for teachers to address problems in the classroom. A lot of wisdom was imparted to allow us to better serve our learners whilst recognising teachers in our strides. There was emphasis on how crucial impact measurement is to data-driven decision-making in order to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives.

Today marks Young Carers Action Day. 🗓️ We have many young carers across EPNE so we want to take today to highlight our support towards career progression for these learners. ✅ This years theme is fair futures for young carers which focuses on why caring should not be a barrier to learning. It is an important day in the calendar to create action, influence and raise awareness for young carers and young adult carers.
