This process is not merely procedural but the heartbeat of: ✅ validating your project's justification ✅ crystallizing expectations ✅ and pinpointing your audience's current performance level At the heart of this exploration are three essential questions: ▶️ What activities are your audience (employees/customers/partners) engaged in presently? ▶️ What outcomes do you envision for them? ▶️ What's stopping them from achieving these outcomes? In my experience, the hurdles preventing optimal performance fall into one (or a combination) of four categories: ⛔️ Insufficient Knowledge ⛔️ Undeveloped Skills ⛔️ Lacking Motivation ⛔️ or Not Enough Resources in their Work Environment Addressing these challenges requires a nuanced approach, especially when establishing 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, and 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. The eLearning initiative must be carefully crafted to bridge knowledge gaps, build skills, inspire motivation, and supply necessary resources effectively. 📈💡 🎯 When setting eLearning goals, align them with overarching business priorities such as 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝘀𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵, or 𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Your eLearning strategy should be flexible and varied to meet industry demands while focusing on enhancing performance and achieving business results. The Learning Experts are creating a new online learning solution, this time for a nonprofit in Regent Park, Toronto, where I first worked way (way!) back in 1997 – www.artheart.ca. So grateful to remain connected to this amazing initiative! As always, my favourite part of #learningexperiencedesign (LXD) has nothing to do with technology and everything to do with people. I’m talking about the discovery process, where we work with the client, and connected stakeholders, to explore and identify the learning need and how we’re going to address it so the outcome is engaged learning and changed behaviour or insight. It’s in the discovery process where JULIAN BERNAL and I become the super team! What makes us so super in our LXD process to help clients uncover and confirm their learning or training needs? 🏅 The Deep Dive - Before we talk to our client, we do our research and prepare. Then we ask our clients good questions. We probe. We assemble our findings using specialized design tools. We debrief and review. Then we review again. We’re looking for signals and clues. Eventually the solution comes together. 🤝 Trust - As we gather information from our clients, Julian and I assess it together, testing out conclusions about what we should build. Here we push each other to dig deeper or assess differently. We seek clarity from each other and talk openly about learning solutions that might or might not work. There is no risk of anger for us. Only trust, excitement, and mutual support for finding the best solution (which we do). 👭 Commitment - While Julian and I come to the task of devising learning experiences from quite different histories (even different continents!), we share a deep and abiding commitment to creating learning pathways that absorb the learner’s interest, scaffold learner knowledge and confidence, and immerse the learner in applying new skills.
