Despite historic public and private investments in the growing field of evidence-based methods, relatively few cities have reduced community violence at the city level and sustained those reductions across leadership transitions. With support from The Pew Charitable Trusts and in partnership with field experts, California Partnership for Safe Communities (CPSC) began working in 2022 to identify the “key capacities” associated with the ability of cities to achieve and sustain reductions in community violence. The findings have significant implications for public policy and how we take on violence in cities. You support others better when you have support, too. Start by noticing the support you *do* have. You can be quite literal here: notice the ground beneath your feet, the chair supporting your body. Consider all the invisible support you have: all the people who work behind the scenes, that help make things happen. Look to the relationships in your life: the people you trust, who have your back, who love you no matter what. And let's include pets and animal friends, too, and the ways they enrich and support your life ❤️ Practice noticing all the ways you are already supported. AND. Practice asking for *more* support. Whether it's requesting a specific resource, help with a task, more time, or simply having a someone to listen without judgment or unsolicited advice. Have a therapist or counselor because you *want* one (don't wait until you "need" one). Have a coach because you *want* one (don't wait until you "need" one). Be as generous in asking for and receiving support as you are in your willingness to give it.
