The Canadian Bar Association and Thomson Reuters Institute have released their very first (finally) State of the Canadian Law Firm Market report along with a benchmark survey of lawyers in government. Here's my story about the report with the key takeaways being if you think something is a problem, you need to make and execute plans to deal with them and not hope they'll just go away; and secondly, if you say x, y, and z make you and your firm successful, you better start actually tracking and measuring those metrics. https://lnkd.in/guhN_GRy

Thank you Canadian Bar Association Competition Law Section for inviting me out to speak at their Spring Conference in Montreal on May 2. Parliament's proposed Bill C-59 does not go far enough to ensure consumers have reasonable access to compensation when they are victims of unlawful conduct, in particular the restrictive trade practices in Part VIII of the Competition Act. Better is required. More detail in the paper Andrea Roulet and I wrote titled "Empowering Private Attorneys General - Disequilibrium Persists in Canadian Competition Law".
