We are delighted to announce the launch of the #Doñana Information Repository! It has been developed as part of the Spain #WaterStewardship Programme convened by WRAP in partnership with SIFAV - Sustainability Initiative Fruit and Vegetables. The Repository, which is openly available in English and Spanish, aims to put together an information base on the geographical and hydrological context of the Doñana Natural Space and its area of influence, based on updated scientific and official data. With this detailed knowledge of the #catchment area, we identify shared challenges and opportunities for #collectiveaction. The Repository aims to build capacity locally and across international value chains, adding value to all four workstreams of the Water Stewardship Programme: Understanding water risks, strengthening certification standards, encouraging and supporting local collective water stewardship, and advocating for sustainable #water management. It also aims to be a meeting place to provide information on the actions being promoted or supported and to encourage participation. How do we ensure the future wellbeing of land and people in Aotearoa New Zealand? That is the question we put to New Zealanders last year. We used the feedback we received after two rounds of consultation to create a vision of what land, and our relationship to it, could look like in 2050. The people we engaged with envisaged a future where: ▪️tangata whenua are empowered to exercise kaitiakitanga in a more meaningful way ▪️we have protected, revitalised and made the land more resilient ▪️we are a less growth-oriented society and have a smaller ecological footprint ▪️people have a deeper connection with the environment and live more sustainable lives ▪️an intergenerational perspective is embedded in decision-making across society. We have set out this vision in our Long-term Insights Briefing 2023, which explores options for improving how we use, manage and care for land. Government agencies are required to produce a long-term insights briefing every three years to support discussion and decision-making on the big issues facing Aotearoa. Happy to see that over the past 5 years, the community members not only owned the solution, but also helped propagate it to surrounding communities, catalysing bigger impact. Why AirKu? To champion a global issue in local context where communities didnt have basic human rights due to water scarcity- right to health, decent livelihood, education and quality of life Why Indonesia? To gain more value per dollar of investment, when the direct beneficiaries of the whole value remained members of the community (zero funds channeled to admin costs or to finance operations of an implementation partner) Why community as key partners? To have highest level of commitment, where community members who faced water crisis needed no additional motivation to drive the project to success Why IMPACTO launched this? To demonstrate 1) we do not always need deep pockets to create an impact 2) trust and partnerships with communities go a long way to address environmental and social issues 3) positive impact is not something that needs legislation or regulation or more money from private sector, but in fact it can be achieved by channeling the limited resources to the right people who have both will and willingness to create permanent solutions for the good of their generations. 🏞️River and Civilization 🌊 Last Sunday, I participated in a community gathering in Jaban Village, Yogyakarta with KPLS Kali Boyong, a grassroots initiative to restore the Boyong River. I joined Mbak Maharani Hapsari , who has been spearheading the community development program in this village since 2017. Before 2017, the river was full of trash. Since then, the community has worked tirelessly to clean and maintain it. . Two main challenges persist: 1️⃣ Lack of caderization – the movement relies heavily on the leadership or willingness of a few individuals, and there's a need for more youth involvement. 2️⃣ Limited time – most community members work informal jobs with uncertain hours, making it hard to consistently clean the river. . In our meeting, we discussed ways to sustain their efforts by integrating river maintenance with their livelihoods and attracting younger generations to become aware and involved. One idea developed is to create eco-friendly and educational trips in this area to kickstart a circular economy and promote sustainable tourism. Do you agree? . Through a joint initiative, WIKA Brazil employees planted 60 saplings with the support of the city council of Iperó. 💚 This wonderful statement from one of the participant encapsulate the spirit of this special day: "Residents of Iperó planted trees in the past, in strategic places and I benefited from this act, this is another reason why I participated in the tree planting. 🌙 Supporting Staff During Ramadan 🌙 During Ramadan, managers play a vital role in creating an inclusive workplace environment, and supporting their staff during their celebration. Here's some ideas on how you can better support staff that are celebrating during this time: -Flexibility: Recognize that fasting during Ramadan may impact your team members' energy levels and productivity. Offer flexible working hours or the option to work remotely to accommodate their needs. If this is not an option, be mindful of the time they may need to take in order to observe this period as they need, and extend invitations to take time away to pray, or break fast where you can. -Awareness: Take the time to educate yourself and your team about the significance of Ramadan and its customs. Encourage open dialogue and create a culture of understanding and respect for different religious beliefs and practices. -Accommodation: Be mindful of scheduling meetings or events that involve food during fasting hours. Consider scheduling important meetings earlier in the day or after Iftar (the breaking of the fast) to ensure all team members can fully participate. -Support: Check in with your staff regularly to see how they're managing during Ramadan. Offer your support and reassurance, and be proactive in addressing any concerns or challenges they may be facing. -Celebration: Embrace the spirit of Ramadan by organizing inclusive activities or events for your team to participate in. Whether it's a virtual Iftar gathering, cultural awareness workshops, or charitable initiatives, creating opportunities for connection and celebration can help strengthen bonds within your team.
