It's easy to assume that because a pair of boots has slip resistance, that it will be great for every task - but no.
It's also good to remember and consider what environment the footwear will be worn it, as this article from the HSE helps explain - https://lnkd.in/g7RAxk3J
The sole design and tread layout also plays a part. Boots with deep grooves and wider tread might work well outdoors, and a closer tread pattern may improve grip indoors or on wet surfaces.
❓But why?
Compare a tractor and a performance track car. One has smooth slick tyres optimised for grip on smoother track surfaces, and the other has wide and deep tread suited for loose soil.
A tractor will keep going in a wet muddy field, but put the track car there and it would just spin.
Sole design is no different, and a smoother closer tread may clog easier outdoors, and so actual slip resistance may be different in the real world.
➡️There is no 'one size fits all', and this is why you should take the time to discuss the environment and task with the supplier to ensure you get the best safety footwear for the job.
👉And remember, the cheapest option isn't always the best value for money 😉
The article is a good read MF Safety & Workwear, I recommend this to anyone wanting an overview about the new safety footwear standards.
