From a conversation this morning... Summarized - we're having trouble getting the team to use our new software. People are still using old spreadsheets, paper, anything else. Even though the software does all the things they are doing in the old system. It's not a software problem ... and it almost never is. And it's not quite fair to JUST say it's a people problem. I mean, it is, because people have to decide to make the change, but people, systems, and change are hard. 👁️ Without a clear VISION (a destination of time and place of where we are going and what we are doing together and when we want to go there - people will be confused. They won't see the value in making the change. 🛠️ Without the SKILLS, people get stuck in anxiety paralysis and fall back to what they know. People need the appropriate training (often repeat training) and the opportunity to learn and practice to gain confidence. ➕ Without INCENTIVES, people will struggle to move at a pace that reaches the destination on time. Incentives vary and aren't always money... encouragement, recognition, time, experience, etc. are all incentives. What motivates you? 💲 ⏱️ Without RESOURCES, including time, resource, talent - people will be frustrated. They WANT to move forward, but if they don't have the resources to make the change, they'll feel blocked and frustrated. ☑️ Without an ACTION PLAN people will get stuck on step one. Without sharing and committing to the plan TOGETHER the team won't arrive together.
