Are we done talking about burnout yet? According to a Forbes article published last week, the answer is, sadly, no. A few stats stand out: 🤯 46% of workers across the globe are looking to quit in 2024, according to a study by LinkedIn and Microsoft. In the United States, that number is even higher, with one LinkedIn study finding that 85% of U.S. employees are considering a career move. 🤯 Employee engagement is at an 11-year low, with 70% of employees surveyed saying they’re not engaged, according to Gallup. These are the people who are still quietly quitting. 🤯 About 82% of all employees are at risk of burning out this year, according to HR Consulting Firm Mercer’s 2024 Global Talent Report. 🤯 According to a new survey by SHRM, 44% of employees feel burned out at work, 45% feel “emotionally drained” from their work, and 51% feel “used up” after work. https://lnkd.in/gT--Dyxc

I've got burnout on the brain. It's in the air. People are more concerned about their job security and their pocketbooks than ever. So, after the lull in work over the holidays, many are looking to roar back into their professions, make their mark, and launch themselves into a successful 2024. And managers and leaders know it. They expect top talent to be making these kinds of resolutions and taking on the burdens that lie before them. But Cornelia Gamlem SPHR and Barbara Mitchell, contributors to HR Exchange Network and authors of the Big Book of HR, are warning us to beware of burning out top talent. I highly recommend you read their latest column. I found myself nodding along the entire time. At one point, I was shouting, "Yes!" "If employees know that they don’t have the bandwidth to take on the new work and complete their current deliverables, you want them to be honest with you. If they say, “This isn’t the right time for me to take this on because I’m already working at full capacity,” it should not be perceived as a negative. Their honesty should be appreciated. This is psychological safety in action," they write. If we're really honest with ourselves, most of us will admit that we either expect them to just keep saying yes if we're in charge. Or if we're the employee, we don't feel like we ever can really say no. It's a true dilemma, and it's at the heart of the discussion about wellness at work, too. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. https://lnkd.in/eGsuhVte #burnout #employeeengagement #employeeexperience #wellness #wellnessatwork #humanresources #hr

According to the CIPD ‘Resenteeism’ in the workplace is on the rise! At one time or another we all may have experienced working with a colleague who clearly seems to actively resent their employer but stays anyway. If you have, then you’ll know how contagious this can quickly become, affecting your mood, morale and even wellbeing in work. It’s not great for their own wellbeing either! Something organisations delay taking action for many reasons. Sometimes this can be because, managers are afraid they might make things worse. However, this is not fair to others in the workplace who are affected by this behaviour. As leaders and managers, we simply need to get on with it and have those difficult conversations! What is your experience? What is your organisation doing to address any such issues if they exist? https://lnkd.in/dG4BPYBJ #allenpeoplesolutions #CIPD #Resenteeism #difficultconversations

✅Providing specialist HR support for HR and People Managers, making pay fairer, developing people and improving processes
A recent report from the Boston Consulting Group suggests that most, if not all, employees around the world have at some point experienced symptoms of burnout at work, with 48% current struggling. However, when employees feel included at work, burnout is halved. They cite the following four sentiments that have the greatest impact on employee wellbeing: * Good access to resources * Senior managerial support * Psychological safety with direct manager * Fair and equal opportunity for success As a reward specialist, it is no surprise to me that pay is not listed here. Paying people more money will not help them be more productive or more engaged if you have not addressed other issues and will be a waste of money... https://lnkd.in/eCDiDrSJ

#Burnout alert: A recent survey by Ipsos reveals that 45% of workers feel burned out or ambivalent about their current positions. The report reveals a significant disconnect between manager perceptions and employee realities. It also found that women and younger generations are particularly affected. From my perspective in the staffing world, ignoring burnout is not an option. I’ve also seen firsthand how talent and staffing partners can lighten the load for an overburdened workforce. They allow you to: ▪ Bring in new talent to reinvigorate teams and distribute workloads ▪ Access professionals skilled in change management and employee engagement ▪ Identify burnout risks and implement preventive measures ▪ Leverage resources to help managers better support their teams How is your organization tackling employee burnout?
