Last week, the Revenue Enablement Society hosted an enablement workshop at the National Sales Conference in London. Our founder Kunal Pandya chaired a group discussion and addressed the participants: “We are at an inflection point within enablement. There have been far too many lay offs, teams wiped out, experienced professionals let go. A damning statistic is that there are more Chief Revenue Officer positions open, than VP of Enablement level positions. This all suggests the value of enablement is not perceived by business executives. I'm truly honored to serve an incredible team, help support a rapidly growing number of amazing customers, and play a small role in helping transform an industry ripe for disruption. #eventplanner #marketingtechnology Read on: It wasn't long ago that I was a newcomer to the events industry, absorbing the basics from industry stalwarts like Eran Ben-Shushan, Joe Schwinger, and Ryan Costello, among others. I also had the privilege of learning from thought leaders such as Julius Solaris, Nicola Kastner, and Todd Moritz. Despite my initial enthusiasm, I found myself contemplating leaving the industry due to its resistance to new, innovative technological approaches and its failure to fully empower event professionals—individuals I consider to be some of the hardest working and most talented in any field. However, everything changed when Dharmesh Dayabhai, a friend and industry expert, along with his co-founder Mike Zosimadis, made me an unusual offer: they would step back if I took on the role of CEO. Although their company was relatively unknown outside of a strong word-of-mouth following, they offered capabilities spanning the events and hospitality portions of the event lifecycle. Intrigued, I decided to dive in. What I found was a team of incredible individuals with a vision centered around data-first product development and empowering event professionals. Their unwavering commitment to customer-centricity was unmatched. I accepted the offer, and since then, something profound has shifted within me. I feel a sense of purpose and belief in an outcome that rivals my early days at Microsoft. The inevitability of disruption in this industry has become a Harvard Business Review case study. While the initial shift to virtual events due to COVID-19 may have seemed like a false start, it served as a clear indicator that transformation is imminent. It's a wave that we must learn to ride, or risk being pulled under.
