We recently had the pleasure of connecting with Rita Ball, the inspiring entrepreneur and founder of Maths Explorers. ➡️ Read our last post about it: https://lnkd.in/eNR7CGGS We explored the potential for collaboration, and I’m excited to share the positive impact we’ve made together for local charity Age UK Wandsworth, during our volunteer day 🤗 Rita graciously led one of her Wellbeing Maths sessions for the clients at Age UK Wandsworth, which was a tremendous success. This experience highlighted how mathematics can significantly support and enhance mental health at any age 🟰 Often perceived solely as an academic discipline, mathematics offers profound benefits for mental well-being 🧠, including: 1. Cognitive Stimulation and Mental Resilience: Engaging with maths exercises the brain, improving cognitive function and resilience, particularly as we age. 2. Reduction of Anxiety through Structure and Control: The logical framework of maths provides a calming effect, offering clarity and focus for those feeling overwhelmed. 3. Meditative and Calming Effects: Solving mathematical problems can be a meditative practice, fostering mindfulness and concentration. 4. Boosting Problem-Solving Skills: Regular engagement with maths enhances our ability to tackle everyday challenges, boosting confidence and self-sufficiency. ✨ Working alongside Rita was a truly enriching experience, and we look forward to future collaborations that will continue to benefit our community and promote mental well-being ✨ #collaboration #volunteer #maths #mathematics #community #wellbeing #mentalhealth

Education. It's the cornerstone of opportunity, the key to unlocking potential, and yet, for countless children in India, it remains a distant dream. 69.3% is the adult literacy rate in India, with a significant gender gap (78.8% male, 59.3% female). Millions of children still lack access to basic education. Only 40% of Indian adolescents attend secondary school, leaving a vast majority without crucial skills and knowledge needed for future success. 25% of teachers are absent daily, highlighting a systemic gap in educational resources and infrastructure. But amidst these challenges, there's a hope: Soul, an NGO working tirelessly to bridge the education gap, one child, one meal at a time. Soul doesn't just preach lessons; they understand the language of hunger. By providing at least one nutritious meal a day, they ensure children, who used to struggle to stay awake in class due to hunger, can now focus on learning. Statistics show that children who receive regular meals demonstrate improved cognitive function, attendance, and academic performance. This simple act becomes the foundation for academic growth, unlocking a world of possibilities. Join the Soulful Movement Education is not a privilege, it's a right. By supporting Soul, you become part of a movement that breaks down barriers and illuminates the path for underprivileged children. Donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word. Together, let's ensure every child gets a chance to learn, grow, and thrive. Comment down "info" to know more about us ! #educationforall #SoulNGO #empowerchildren #joinus #volunteer

International Day of the Girl Child ✨ This year's theme is “Girls' Vision for the Future”, and more than ever, it's crucial to empower girls to imagine and build that future. At Action for Development, we believe that education is the key to every girl shaping a future in her own image. 🌍 💫 🎓 Why educate girls? Because when they're educated, girls acquire the tools they need to dream, innovate and become tomorrow's leaders. They can see beyond obstacles and create a future where equality, justice and sustainability are at the heart of our societies. 💡 Girls' vision for the future is one of progress, equality and change. By giving them access to education, we enable them to explore their full potential and become key players in tomorrow's world. Support girls' futures by donating to our “Education for Marginalized Kabul Children” project, and give them the chance to build a better future. 💪 💫 👉 https://lnkd.in/dxGSQQh #GirlsVision #EducationForAll #EmpowerHer #ActionForDevelopment #GirlsLead

How do we have a sustainable and inclusive future if our women and girls are wallowing in poverty, with no sustainable economic empowerment resources and mentorship? Women and girls without any source of income are vulnerable to sexual violence, domestic violence and more. Hence why I launched the She Learned Empowered and Mentorship (SLEM) Project, a project set to enrol women and girls with no source of income in skills acquisition schools, mentor them and upon graduation, provide them with start up capital to be economically Empowered and viable and be able to fend for themselves and their families. We have made significant progress by enrolling two through the support of amazing people on this platform and we hope to do more. 1. Elizabeth enrolled in a baking and decoration school Here https://lnkd.in/entAVdWW 2. Darasimi enrolled in Makeup and photography school Here https://lnkd.in/dGPvVke2 I may not have a lot of things but I have this; My vision, drive, and desire are to see and advocate for opportunities to improve health, and well-being, and provide empowerment opportunities for orphans, women, and young girls from very poor households; a move to raise 5000 highly-skilled, independent, and financially empowered women and girls in the next 5 years. One will say it is not possible however I am willing to contribute my quota to improving the lives of women and girls from low income households. They will be graduating soon and I believe we will be able to source for her start funds, and equipment with continued mentorship from their trainers until the businesses stabilizes and they can stand on their own. I have 50 young girls from low-income homes who have been identified and listed, have completed secondary school but are currently unable to enroll in institutions of higher learning, and also women with no source of livelihood to be enrolled in various skills acquisition schools of their interest. They are yet to be enrolled to commence training because their training fees are yet to be sourced out. Participating training schools have given us a discount on their training fees yet we are unable to pay the required training fees for them to commence training school. To sponsor Elizabeth and Darasimi with start-up capital or assist in training fees of one of the girls and women on my list, kindly reach out and I will send you the full list of their names and the skills of interest. Thank you. The little we do is able to create ripple of change in the society. #contentwriter #Goodhealth #empowerment #yaodiary Women for Women International Women Deliver Prof. Bola Owolabi, MRCGP MFPH(Hon), FRSPH Temi Omorinoye

Founder, CEO at Step2Words | Entrepreneur-In-Residence @ The Circle India | Building English Literacy Through Arts |
Why did I start an arts-based literacy organization that caters to marginalized children? When I started Step2Words, my answer kept changing. At first, it was due to my experience during my Teach For India fellowship. Working with the children during the fellowship provided me with a reality check. But today, as I work with more children on-ground, I realize there is more to it. With new data, questions, and insights, I can look at the bigger picture in India. Today: ❗ 85% of employers in India believe that English is the official language of communication (Cambridge English) ❗ 53% of children will graduate high school without 21st-century skills that these employers demand (UNICEF) ❗ 24.5% of Grade 5 children can only read simple sentences in English (ASER) ❗ 10% of children participate in English classes because they find them monotonous (NCERT) These four facts inspire us to EXIST. We at Step2Words dream of an India where every child will have the opportunity to escape poverty. And how do we do we do this? By creating opportunities to empower the marginalized to improve their literacy levels and cultivate 21st-century skills by teaching English through arts. But why Art? 👉 Because art invokes creativity. 👉Because art invokes joy. 👉Because art invokes love. But most importantly, art invokes hope. And when integrated with literacy skills this art creates a potent combination. ✨ A combination that gives hope to children to escape poverty trap. ✨ A combination that gives hope to children to support their loved ones. ✨ A combination that gives hope to children to lead life on their terms, and not let socio-economic status dictate their future. Since we started as an idea in 2021, we have impacted 120+ children in Pune and 6 educators pan-India. This year, we plan to impact 190+ children across 2 states and 10 educators pan-India. But to achieve what we set out to do, we need funds. And to address this, we have started a fundraising campaign (the link can be found in the comments; you can also find the link on my profile). I request you to contribute to the extent you can. If you cannot donate, do share it with the ones who can. Repost it with your network so we can continue doing what we do. #fundraising #donation #repost #india #ngo #literacy #children

𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 ~ 1.3 million young people have stopped activities outside school like socialising with friends, sports and hobbies because of the cost-of-living crisis. Almost 7 in 10 young people are concerned about the cost of living crisis. 76% of young people spend most of their free time on screens and over half (51%) spend most of their free time in their bedrooms. Lets refer to this as 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 because it's real and our youth are becoming extremely disengaged. Over one in five young people (22%) say they don’t have opportunities to learn new skills that help them to become independent – skills vital to help prepare for adulthood 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 ... Youth clubs help young people make friends, learn new skills and overcome difficulties – yet just 9% of 11-18 year olds attend one, and of those who don’t attend one, almost half reported not having a youth club near their home and reported experiencing feelings of depression and anxiety. #youthwork #youth #youngpeople #community #uk #youthworker #youthworkworks #youthgroup #youthempowerment #thefuture #thisisyouthwork #staysafe #investinthefuture #thenextgeneration #education #youthdevelopment #charity #support #enfield #londonyouth #linkedincommunity #linkdinpost #youthmentoring #exodusyouthworxuk
