Our 出海 topic with Phoebe SHEN: “Cultural and Creative Considerations to Transcend Borders of China” was very well-received as that direction is quite rare in a regional creative conference! Why are we talking about this topic at this particular time? Macro level: There are more and more Chinese brands with overseas revenue contributing up to more than half of their total, such as Haier, roughly 52% of revenue from overseas markets in 2022. Micro level: I started with 2 real stories from normal-but-not-normal consumers. I asked our own WARC colleagues living in London and Mumbai to try and isolate their key decision criterion for their most recent purchase involving a Chinese brand. Remember that these guys eat, live, sleep, drink, dream marketing effectiveness so they were able to retrospectively and consciously analyse their own buying decision afterwards. First story: BYD versus Hyundai. BYD's specs and price, after evaluation, were way better than Hyundai, and still a Hyundai EV was picked by the first colleague because the brand represented better 'credibility'.  That is the key word. Second story: OnePlus versus Samsung. Another colleague was a self-professed Samsung fanboy for many years and switched to OnePlus as it become a sort of must-have for techies in the know. I would like to bring to realme India attention a recent interaction I had with one of your esteemed Senior Executives, Mr. Rohitash, from the Escalation team on August 27, 2023, at 12:08 PM IST. While I initially anticipated a positive and professional experience, regrettably, my encounter with Mr. Rohitash left much to be desired. During our conversation, Mr. Rohitash asserted a statement that I found quite perplexing and contrary to RealMe's own policies. Specifically, he stated that on the 7th day within the 7-day replacement policy window, customers are not eligible for any replacement. This statement, if accurate and endorsed by RealMe, appears to deviate from the terms of RealMe's 7 days return and replacement policy. Given my professional background as an advocate, I was astonished by the assertion made by Mr. Rohitash, which, in my view, not only contradicted your company's own policy but also raised ethical and legal concerns. It is my belief that customers should not be left in a situation where they are denied recourse on the 7th day of the replacement policy, compelling them to resort to service centers for product defect resolution, instead of availing a replacement or return option as per the policy. I am writing to seek clarification from realme India regarding your stance on the statement made by Mr. Rohitash during our interaction. As a customer who reached out in the hope of finding a resolution and expecting a commitment from RealMe, I was disheartened to receive a response that I perceive as misleading, deceptive, and potentially in violation of your company's own policies. I kindly request that you review this matter promptly and provide me with a clear understanding of RealMe's position on the issue raised. Additionally, I trust that your Legal Team and HR Team will also consider the implications of such statements made by employees in customer interactions. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your response, which I hope will shed light on the situation and provide a resolution that aligns with the ethical and professional standards expected from a reputable company like realme India realme #realme #replacement Madhav Sheth realme India

Just read an article in ET on #Realme focusing on mid and budget segments rather than competing in the premium segment. Of course they say they will continue to increase their focus on the mid high segment. Fail to understand what took them so much time to realise it. I have been saying for quite some time that a brand should first consolidate in the price segment where it finds acceptance as per its positioning. And anything above Rs 30000-34000 will be a challenge for Realme on this basis. Secondly, the price segment below Rs 34000 which is entry premium and below contributes to 86% of the total volumes in Q1 2024. First make your foothold strong here. I have also been saying that just because premiumisation is the latest buzz word, brands should not start launching premium devices blindly. They should either try and establish themselves in the next price segment where they are present which is entry premium for Realme , or get their ASP higher than the Indian ASP. What made them announce their new approach? Possibly the weak response to its Realme GT at Rs 40k as per market reports. We need to stop saying, “Indian consumers are not loyal.” If you don’t deliver the right product or service, consumers are ready to switch and this isn't unique to India. Globally, no brand is spared. Consumers moved on from giants like Blackberry, Sony, Kodak and Nokia the moment better technology and services became available. So, it's not about the Indian consumer. <update> Just wanted to update that employee at Xiaomi India reached out to me and have resolved the issue. They have provided the replacement of water tank with no extra charges. I wanted to thank all of you for your support! </end of update> I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the malfunctioning Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner that I purchased from Xiaomi India approximately four months ago. I had high expectations for this product, given its advertised features and the reputation of Xiaomi India as a brand. Unfortunately, my experience has been marred by both the poor quality of the product and the inadequate level of customer service I have received. Shortly after the four-month mark of owning the Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner with a mopping function, I encountered a significant issue: the mopping function ceased to operate effectively. Promptly recognizing this as a malfunction, I reached out to Xiaomi's customer care department in hopes of a swift resolution to this problem. In response to my complaint, Xiaomi dispatched engineers to my residence to assess the device. Regrettably, I found their conduct to be lacking in professionalism and expertise. Rather than conducting a thorough evaluation of the product to identify the root cause of the malfunction, the engineers hastily concluded that the water tank needed replacement without providing any substantial evidence or detailed examination. I am deeply concerned and disappointed that a component as essential as the water tank would malfunction within just four months of normal use, especially when the product is still under warranty. This experience raises serious doubts about the overall quality, reliability, and durability of Xiaomi's products. I am left wondering if other consumers have faced similar issues with this particular model, which further undermines my trust in Xiaomi as a brand. I would like to emphasize that I made a significant investment in purchasing the Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner, expecting it to offer a reliable and efficient cleaning solution to simplify my household chores. However, the current situation has not only failed to meet my expectations but has also resulted in additional inconvenience and effort on my part due to a faulty component. Despite multiple follow-ups on my complaint, I have not received any response from Xiaomi for the past 20 days. This prolonged silence is highly unprofessional and has further eroded my trust in Xiaomi as a reliable brand. Based on this disappointing experience and lack of timely communication, I cannot in good conscience recommend Xiaomi products to others and will reconsider purchasing any of your products in the future.
