Leather’s ‘permanent priorities’ are paramount at PV Première Vision opened its doors on February 6, with the event running until February 8 at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre. leatherbiz.com/News/167559 A main focus in the #leather segment of the show is “tomorrow’s leather industry”. The organisers have explained: “Today’s leather industry is facing new challenges that go well beyond the technical issues tanners and their partners have always surmounted, thanks to their extraordinary inventivity and adaptability.” They added that expectations in terms of quality and volume, the preservation of land and ecosystems, and #environmental and #traceability issues are becoming “permanent priorities for the #leatherindustry”. Première Vision has said it will now seek to integrate “issues and solutions destined to shape tomorrow’s leather industry” into its overall approach to the sector, including new technologies, advances in agriculture, approaches to climate change and more. 𝗔𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁?! 🔍 This is possible with our latest innovation: Valmex® attractive Mesh FR. We at Mehler Texnologies® aim to create products that save our end customers the need to tediously combine several materials. This is how we developed this technical textile, which was also presented at the Techtextil trade fair and was extremely well received by our visitors. Our aim was to develop a product for the rising temperatures, hours of sunshine and changing fauna. Here are some notable features of our fabric: 👉 Exceptionally UV-resistant 👉 Effortless to maintain cleanliness 👉 Provides comfortable shade 👉 Designed with openings small enough for insect protection, meeting WHO standards 👉 Capable of being welded like any other PVC-coated product in our portfolio So, we have designed a product that not only reduces the demand on resources, but also makes life easier for the customers. #MehlerTexnologies #FreudenbergPerformanceMaterials #InnovatingTogether #Shade #Innovation #Insectprotection

Future Fabrics Expo 2024! Our rebel Leontine Wagenaar 林依婷 with Aniela Hoitink of Mycotex, and Niccy Kol visited the Future Fabrics Expo in London and what an incredible experience it was! Held at Magazine London, this event showcased the latest in certified, sustainably, and responsibly-produced textiles and materials across 3200 square meters. From the moment we stepped in, we were immersed in innovation. We explored textiles from regenerative agricultural farming systems, discovered materials derived from agricultural waste, and admired beautiful certified organic cottons. The regenerated cellulosics like TENCEL™ Lyocell and REFIBRA™ technology were particularly impressive, as were the circular and recycled natural materials, low-impact wools, and sustainable silks. The expo also featured responsibly-produced leather and innovative alternatives to animal skins, highlighting the industry's commitment to sustainability and many more. Since 2011, the Future Fabrics Expo has been the premier platform for driving positive change in the textile industry, and this year was no exception. It was a day filled with learning, inspiration, and discovering how the industry is moving towards a more sustainable future. #futurefabricsexpo #sustainability #textileinnovation #responsiblefashion #sustainablesourcing #sustainablefabrics

When people ask... why did you develop Zeology? At Royal Smit & Zoon we are dedicated to make the leather value chain more sustainable, environmentally and socially. Until 2020 we mainly focused on wet end and finishing. However, to really make a difference in the leather value chain, we knew there was a part missing: sustainable chemicals for leather tanning, because tanning is a crucial part in the leather making process. In tanning the biggest difference can be made to make leather more sustainable. About 75% of leather made today is chrome tanned. Chrome tanning produces consistent, long-lasting leather that retains its properties over time. However, chrome tanning is not the most sustainable option due to its environmental impact and the fact that chrome-tanned leather is not compostable. That is why we have developed Zeology. Zeology offers high-performing leather comparable to chrome-tanned leather while providing significant environmental benefits. It produces much cleaner waste streams, and the scrapings can be composted, making it a true game-changer for the leather industry. Do you want to know more? A #BIOCIRCULAR Future for Leather How many times have you wanted to use a good quality material like #leather but hesitated because you were unsure if it could be considered #sustainable? 🙄 Looking at the different types of #tanning and understanding what is a good fit for you can be challenging. You may have heard that chrome tanning is bad, yet it represents most of the leather you see on the market. However, chrome-free leather isn't always more sustainable as it depends how is made and if it's made with Glutaraldehiyde. ☠ The most important thing to consider is that leather is a #natural material, a by-product of the meat industry, with technical specifications that no other material has matched so far. This means that if we tan leather in the right way, we can contribute to a bio-circular future by returning a natural product to the #environment. For instance the leather waste from #shoes factories could be transformed into #Organic fertiliser for agricultural use. We will explore this topic together with Alessandra Taccon from one of the world's largest producers of tannins, Silvateam s.p.a., and with Gustavo Adrián Defeo, a leading expert in bio-circularity and founder of CTC Ars Tinctoria srl. If you want to learn about leather and bio-circularity, there's no better time to join us than tomorrow, 📅 Tuesday, May 21st, at 17:00 CET, at the Sustainable Academy. https://lnkd.in/ePuvugQx Nicolò Giusti #vegetableleathe #biobased #cicualrity #regenerative #greenwash

According to Global Assessment study report by United Nations around one million species “already face extinction, many within decades, unless action is taken to reduce the intensity of drivers of #biodiversity loss”. Every extinct species is a lost blueprint for potential innovations that could change our lives. Innovation inspiration is among many reasons to protect nature and #biodiversity.
𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐫𝐨 is the unsung hero of daily life, effortlessly holding shoes, bags and jackets together like a clingy friend who never lets go. Have you ever wondered about the origin of 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐫𝐨? The story takes us back to 1941, when Swiss engineer 𝐺𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑒 𝑑𝑒 𝑀𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙 went for a walk with his dog. Upon returning, he noticed his clothes and his dog's fur covered in spiky burrs —those spiky seeds that cling stubbornly to fabric and fur. Intrigued, he examined these seeds under a microscope and discovered their hook-like structure that latched onto loops in the fabric and fur. This observation led to the invention of Velcro – a revolutionary fastener mimicking nature's design. 𝐷𝑒 𝑀𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙'𝑠 creation has since found countless applications from clothing and footwear to aerospace technology and healthcare. The story of Velcro is a perfect example of biomimicry—innovations inspired by nature. Nature has been running its R&D department for billions of years and we're just catching up. But here's the rub – #biodiversity is disappearing faster than free food at an office party. Each extinct species is like that one LEGO piece you need to complete your masterpiece – gone forever. 🏗 Protecting #biodiversity is not just about preserving beauty or ecological balance; It’s about preserving a goldmine of ideas and inspiration. Naturefuture recognises that in the game of innovation, Mother Nature always plays the long game. 💡 Join Naturefuture in supporting mother nature's long game by supporting various nature #conservation efforts of NGOs. #Conservation #Ecology #wildlife #Biodiversity #CSR #WildlifeConservation #philanthropy #sustainability #CorporateSocialResponsibility #socialimpact #Naturefuture
