Today is World Mental Health Day! We are delighted to highlight the EMF-funded study led by A/Prof Manaan Kar Ray, Director of Mental Health at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Metro South Health. The research team is implementing the SAFE STEPS initiative (SAFE and Seamless Transition through Enhanced Proactive Support) to support individuals at risk of mental health deterioration. The aim is to reduce presentations in the emergency department (ED) by developing effective community care systems, whilst creating a replicable blueprint for other EDs. This is the largest international study to date, reviewing 25,000 mental health presentations to the ED. Analysis of the dataset, along with surveys and in-depth interviews, will help identify key characteristics of planned and unplanned admissions and inform service changes. A/Prof Kar Ray stated, “We’re confident these systems can proactively identify and support patients before they reach the ED.” This research is already making an impact, with the research team observing a 66% decrease in ED presentations in 2023 from patients engaged by the Acute Care Team compared to the previous year. Digital Mental Health Landscaping in Low- and Middle-Income Countries  - Wellcome Trust commissioned the Rapid Research Evaluation and Appraisal Lab at UCL with this report. The aim of this project was to map the landscape of who is doing what and where in digital mental health, and to provide recommendations that may assist in targeting communication efforts and funding calls. To address this, the project consisted of three studies: - Social Media Review - Systematic Literature Review - Focused Consultation with experts. This report presents the comprehensive results of digital mental health interventions across both academic and commercial landscapes in LMICs. The findings highlight the diverse range of interventions, technologies, and mental health conditions addressed, as well as the geographical distribution and stakeholder involvement in the development and testing of these interventions. https://lnkd.in/dxWHSd6q #mentalhealth #mentalhealthinterventions #digitalmentalhealth

One in four U.S. adults screened positively for depression, according to a new analysis from the COVID-19 and Life Stressors Impact on Mental Health and Well-Being (CLIMB) study. There were no significant differences among party affiliations, though the unmet need for treatment was highest among Republicans. Since then, we've been working together alongside leaders and organizations to highlight key themes and develop our Systems Mapping Tool, which identifies the range of stakeholders who must be involved in driving this change. Today, MHI's Director of Brain Health Kana Enomoto joined TKF's CEO Rebecca O. Bagley on stage at the 2024 Alignment for Progress Conference to jointly share an update on the roadmap and how to operationalize it over the next 10 years.
