Light sensitivity, especially after a concussion, can be a real challenge for many of us. It can make navigating different environments difficult and uncomfortable. But did you know that avoiding light completely may not be the best solution? Research actually suggests that gradual exposure to light is the way to go when dealing with light sensitivity. Light exposure plays a crucial role in our sleep/wake cycle, also known as our circadian rhythm. When we avoid light altogether, it can actually disrupt our sleep patterns and make it harder for us to get a good night's rest. So, instead of avoiding light, toss those sunglasses aside and pay attention to the natural signals from your brain. This can mean spending some time outside in natural light or gradually increasing the brightness of the lights in your home or office.
