We’re excited to share that The University of Kansas Resilient Campus Master Plan received a National Award at the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) 2024 Excellence in Planning Awards! It’s a plan that has been shaped by many voices and perspectives to make KU resilient and sustainable for future generations. It tackles a range of complex issues related to growth, performance, collaboration, and innovation to advance research and mission goals. The data-driven process outlines a sustainable path for renewing campus facilities, establishing a culture of transparency in decision-making, and promoting environmental stewardship. To meet this goal, the master planning team built a dynamic digital platform that allows KU operations to update space use and building analyses on an ongoing basis. This ensures adaptability as enrollment grows, the campus evolves, and priorities change. “This master plan is a work based on thousands of voices expressing what we value and how we should use this place on Mount Oread,” says Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, provost and executive vice chancellor at KU. “We have an obligation to be good stewards of this campus. Our goal is to be sustainable and resilient in our path forward to right-size our campus for future needs.” Congratulations to our incredible design team and partners: Multistudio, RMF Engineering, Inc., Smith & Boucher, Inc., SK Design Group, Inc., and Introba.
