The US is facing an electrical shortfall, with daily articles discussing the looming crisis. To put this into perspective, the data centers in just one geographic region require 15GW of energy, which is equivalent to 75-85GW of solar power. That's a massive investment of approximately $80 billion! #solarpower #renewableenergy #electricityshortage

💡This article has prompted me to focus on energy and economic policies on increasing base load capacity, supported by renewable energy generation increase and low energy prices. 🎯 Why not redirect the dialogue towards a sustainable strategy for powering countries, attracting large energy consumers, rather than solely focusing on discussing limitations on renewable capacity connections, flexibility, curtailment compensation, load shifting, and other themes around renewable energy? 📈 Policies are currently adopting a reductionist approach to renewable energy, advocating for multiple forms of limitations during peak generation periods. However, by investing in enhancing base load capacity, we not only ensure a stable and reliable clean energy supply but also pave the way for robust economic growth and social development. #RenewableEnergy #EnergyPolicy #BaseLoad #Sustainability #conomicProsperity https://lnkd.in/dXn-57M2

💡 "Consumers should not accept a future where power is less reliable and more expensive. But unless we establish common ground and advance realistic solutions, that is the future we can expect." In a new article for Utility Dive, EPSA President and CEO Todd Snitchler and Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) Executive Director Christina Hayes spotlight actionable, nonpartisan solutions to bring more cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable energy to Americans. As political rhetoric heats up, there's still plenty of room for both/and approaches that create winners all around. New legislation from U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, III and US Senator John Barrasso shows bipartisan commitment to fixing a broken system. Other key actions to enhance and build transmission and optimize power market rules can have meaningful impact. Read their recommendations for a stronger system. #energy #energypolicy #permittingreform #infrastructure #energyexpansion #cleanenergy

Today's EPA announcement on power plant regulations raises significant concerns about our nation's energy landscape. The path outlined is unlawful, unrealistic, and unachievable. As I have said for months, these rules present formidable challenges to electric reliability and economic stability. We must ensure our energy policies prioritize both reliability and affordability. NRECA’s assessment of EPA’s power plant rule remains unchanged from the agency’s original proposal: • The rule is unlawful. It violates the law, exceeds EPA’s authority, and disregards Supreme Court rulings. • The technology isn’t ready. The rule mandates the widespread adoption of a technology that is promising, but not ready for prime time. • The timelines are unrealistic. The rule gives neither existing coal units nor new gas units enough time to reach compliance. As leaders in the energy sector, we must advocate for policies that prioritize reliability and affordability for all.

On September 11, 2024 the California Energy Commission (CEC) unanimously approved the 2025 California Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6). The Statewide Codes and Standards Enhancement (CASE) Team is proud to have supported the CEC throughout the code cycle in developing new and revised code requirements that represent a significant milestone in the state’s continued efforts to meet critical energy and climate goals. The 2025 code is expected to result in an annual statewide energy savings of 404 GWh of electricity and 35 million therms of natural gas. It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 177,000 metric tons CO2e per year, which is equivalent to the emissions from 42,126 cars. The 2025 code will also support building decarbonization, load management, and grid resiliency. We need the public who is more concerned with our economy, low electricity prices for everyone, and Grid reliability to speak up and overwhelm the environmentalist contingency. Where to speak up? It’s a fair question. I have to leave it to you to figure that out. But essentially, everywhere groups like the sierra club speak up, we need an overwhelming number of citizens to speak up in favor of low cost, reliable electricity.

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has issued (another) set of emergency regulations affecting the Clean Peak Energy Standard (CPS). In the near term, these changes will reduce the cost of CPS to ratepayers; the longer-term implications are more complex. To learn more, check out our newest Clean Peak Market Outlook (CPMO) blog post: Stephan Wollenburg breaks down these programmatic changes, discusses the resulting short- and long-term implications, and weighs in on the expected next steps. https://lnkd.in/e_N4HnbZ #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

🌱💡How do we solve yesterday’s interconnection challenges with today’s technology? In the latest episode on SunCast Media, 'Episode 690: Can We Squeeze More Power Through The Existing Wires? AES VP of Strategic Development, Alexina Jackson, says "yes" and had an insightful discussion on the future of renewable energy and AES' innovative solutions to pressing grid issues. In the episode, Alexina uncovers how we are using cutting-edge technology to integrate renewable energy into the grid. Moreover, Alexina highlights the benefit of our approach to converting distributed resources, like solar farms and windmills, into "virtual power plants," increasing system efficiency and aiding in creating a sustainable future, "A virtual power plant is a great way of creating a portfolio of assets that can be called to provide services to the customer, but also to the grid, help find that balance and enable us to build the right sized grid for our electrical future.” If you've been curious about the latest innovations in renewable energy and the role AES is playing, don't miss out on this episode. New on the PowerFacts blog: "The [FERC] confirmation hearing showed that the nominees were committed to the foundational importance of ensuring the reliability and affordability of the energy system. Their perspective on fuel and technology neutrality will be vital to meeting the rising energy demand across the country and reducing costs for rate payers. Fortunately, all the nominees appear to take the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s oversight responsibility of the wholesale market seriously, and are interested in a functional marketplace that sends accurate price signals to generators, as well as streamlining the interconnection process to bring additional resources online."
