Our briefing on the UCAS January application data. Concerning to see the continued decline in applications to healthcare courses. UCAS have highlighted particular shortfalls in Adult Nursing and Mental Health nursing. Mature student application rates have slowed significantly. The good news is that this is is not the last opportunity for aspiring healthcare professionals to apply for degree programmes. Our members will continue to work hard to recruit students to the variety of healthcare programmes they offer that lead to fulfilling careers in a broad range of professions and roles over the next few months. However, achieving the much-needed expansion of the future healthcare workforce needs concerted action, both nationally and regionally, between government, healthcare employers and education providers to make careers in the health professions, and the degree-level programmes which lead to them, more attractive to a wide range of potential students.

NMCWatch Registrant care CIC was encouraged to read this article by the Independant https://lnkd.in/diNpuXVq However the culture is not isolated to how they treat their own staff - it is endemic on how they behave and how it has become the norm to behave as above how any other organisation in healthcare is expected to behave. Someone very wise said to me recently " If this were an NHS trust it would have been in special measures years ago and the whole board / council would have gone" There are some very good personell at the NMC trying their best to influence change but when behaviour is so indoctrinated something big has to happen. We hear from families of patients, registrants and friends of registrants who have taken their own lives to hear this behaviour is to ALL the NMC deal with. Just because you are under investigation does not mean you should be treated with any less compassion, fairness and care. Many of those under investigation will have their no case to answer and many of those even going to hearing will be cleared. From those cases we have been involved with the glaring aspect is even cases that have gone on years have had very poor investigation, lack of transparency around evidence gathering and a complete disregard for what this is supposed to be about - ensuring safe practitioners remain in the workplace and ones that are beyond remediation are shown this is not the profession for them Currently the process does nothing for "learn" and all for "blame

Championing International Nurses in the UK! International nurses are the backbone of UK healthcare - a truth the NMC acknowledges. Enter the NMC's new initiative: a forum for international nursing and midwifery associations (INMAs). It's a progressive step in bolstering support and understanding for internationally educated nurses and midwives who enrich our health service. This forum will convene twice yearly, creating a bridge between INMAs and the NMC. The goal? To deepen insights into the lived experiences of these professionals and to shape strategic, empathetic policies. It's not just a meeting - it's a commitment to action and inclusion. The first of these pioneering meetings unfolds today, underpinned by a shared purpose: to ensure a supportive, respectful work environment for all. It's time to celebrate the diversity and dedication these professionals bring to the UK. Expect robust discussions, fresh perspectives, and meaningful outcomes. #NMC #InternationalNurses #HealthcareHeroes

Dr. Mary McCaffrey, Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, is a Senior Medical Advisor with MPS, and is Deputy Coroner for Cork City. Dr. McCaffrey previously worked as a Gynaecologist at Limerick Women’s Prison.
It takes a village to rear a child, it also takes more than one speciality to safely care for mom and baby in pregnancy/ delivery!!!! This article is essential reading for all leaders in maternity care- admin managers, clinical leads in obstetrics and midwifery! It highlights how essential collaboration practice is, how important it is to create a working environment that nurtures it, how important it is that all members of the team understand the important role of their colleagues. We have had Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS Report, the Donna Ockenden Report, MidStaffordshire Report, Bill Kirkup Report all highlighting the importance of team work and workplace culture. Therefore this is a very essential reflection. #patientsafety #midwife #obstetrician #patientcare

It is imperative for all stakeholders, including the Federal Government, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and the nurses themselves, to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at resolving the issues surrounding the new certificate verification guidelines. This dialogue should prioritize the protection of nurses' rights while also ensuring the integrity of certification processes within the nursing profession #NigeriaGovt #NigeriaNursesandMidwives #NMCN #NigerianHealthcare https://lnkd.in/eURtEiqC
