Recap of Day 6 in Module B! 🎯 This week’s online workshop focused on the fundamentals of corporate strategies and business development. We had the pleasure of welcoming biotech and pharma business experts Muriel Fisser and Federica Sgariglia, PhD to lead this session, and they did a fantastic job! In this session, we explored: 1. How corporate strategies should outline a plan towards your company’s mission and vision statements. 2. Key questions that need to be answered to bring a new product to market in pharma and biotech companies. 3. Participants worked within their teams to conduct a SWOT analysis, reflecting on their project's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, gaining valuable insights into their business strategies. 4. The role of business development in startups and how to use their SWOT insights to craft messages tailored for different audiences, whether for partners and investors. This session was incredibly valuable, with outcomes that participants will be able to apply in future workshops! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey. 🚀 #BioEntrepreneurship #Innovation #StartupMentoring #Biotech #Medtech #BEIprogram #UZH #ETH #USZ

WCM Enterprise Innovation: Accelerating the Best of Biomedical Innovation to Market Through Collaboration
Thank you Nil Gural, Raj Saraiya, PharmD, MBA, and Ronak Savla for their insightful discussion on "Investor Expectations at Initial Meetings." Expectation management and alignment is so critical for establishing any relationship and the investor-founder one is no different. This panel nicely sets the stage for our Start-Up Symposium and InvestConnect Conference being held on Wednesday February 28 at Weill Cornell Medicine hosted by the Weill Cornell Medicine BioVenture eLab. #takeaway Do's and Don't for that Initial Meeting: Do: Come prepared, know who you are meeting with, tell your story consisely and clearly, own the follow-up, take close note of any questions/feedback/input and definitely do make it about building a long-term relationship and not just an immediate investment. Don't: neglect to make crystal clear your differenting factor (there are always competitors!), underestimate the scientific accumen of an investment team, get hung up on "performing your pitch from the ppt", and most importanly don't get discouraged if the answer is "not yet" (see above about building that long-term relationship!). What an incredible time at #BioEuropeSpring in Barcelona! 🎉 This year, I decided to take a step back from one-to-one meetings and fully embrace the conference buzz. It was amazing to meet new people and catch up with old friends around the booths for a coffee or a drink. I was also fortunate enough to be part of the opening panel discussion, and here are some key takeaways: 🚀 Despite the challenging times and a dip in Series A investments in 2023, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking! It's inspiring to see more scientists venturing into the startup world. 💡 Venture capitalists are increasingly involved in company creation. Don't hesitate to connect with us and have conversations about your technologies. We may offer valuable advice and insights. 🤝 Building long-term relationships with VCs and Pharma is crucial, especially for scientific founders and CEOs. Remember, a "no" doesn't mean it's the end. Show progress and keep delivering to keep the conversation going. Can't wait to see where these connections and experiences take me next!
