Meet Veronica B., our Area Clinical Practice Manager based out of New Jersey. Veronica began her medical career as a x-ray technician, working in a trauma center hospital. That was where she became familiar with the role of a Physician Assistant: “Physician Assistants in my hospital were directly involved in diagnosing and treating the patient. Although I was involved as an x-ray technician, I felt that my contribution was limited. I wanted to be able to do more for my patients. That was when I started to take interest in learning more about the profession and later applied for it. When I finally became a Physician Assistant, I always enjoyed taking care of the elderly population. There was a great deal of reward and gratitude associated with the service I provided that was priceless to me.” Once Veronica decided on becoming a Physician Assistant, joining the GPS family was a natural fit. “I joined GPS in 2019 to continue to make a difference in the underserved, geriatric population. I have received tremendous support and continuous training and education from everyone on the GPS team. It has allowed me to grow as a medical professional, as well as advance in my career in ways I didn't think were possible. Now, as a part of a management team, I am able to mentor other providers joining the GPS family. I take pride in sharing my clinical knowledge with others, as well as helping providers navigate this challenging but rewarding career path.” What does a typical day look like for a GPS manager? “There is no typical or average day for me, per se. Every day varies from training newly hired providers, to providing support to current providers, to overseeing day-to-day affairs at the center level.” Having experience as a provider has definitely prepared Veronica for her role as an ACPM: “Being fairly new to the management role, I know and remember first-hand what it is like to be a provider myself. My approach to management is to be understanding, listen, create a comfortable and safe environment to share concerns, ideas, suggestions. I am there to be a support and to give advice, guide, and lead by example.” These leadership practices help prepare new providers for both their current and future roles within the healthcare industry. Something you may not know about Veronica? She is “a forever student, who enjoys learning new subjects, new areas of medicine, and thrives on taking on new challenges. Growing is essential to me whether as a medical professional or as a person and a mom.” Interested in working alongside Veronica or one of our other ACPMs? Join the GPS team!
