Hearts breaking for Palestine: Will you join us in making a difference? As we scroll through our feeds, the images from Rafah pierce through our screens, searing into our hearts. Jewish Voice for Peace We are compelled to name this out loud: This year, when we gather for our Passover seders, we will be doing so while a genocide is being inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza, by a state that purports to act in the name of the Jewish people. This year, our seders will be different. The anti-Zionist synagogue @tzedekchicago’s 5784 Passover Haggadah offers some framing: ● If we fail to give the Palestinian people a voice at our table this evening, we will not have fulfilled the requirements of the Passover seder… ● If our Passover festival focuses exclusively on Jewish trauma – and not on the ways our trauma is being weaponized to oppress another people, we will not have fulfilled the requirements of the Passover seder… ● If we read the Passover story as a story of Jewish liberation alone or - God forbid - Jewish liberation at the expense of others, we will not have fulfilled the requirements of the Passover seder… ● If we celebrate this festival by hardening our hearts to the horrifying stories and images from Gaza that have been crying out to us for the past seven months, we will not have fulfilled the requirements of the Passover seder… ● If our gathering does not motivate us to do everything in our power to end the genocidal violence Israel is unleashing upon Gaza, we will not have fulfilled the requirements of the Passover seder. One way to stand with Palestinians in Gaza at your seder is to take a pledge in place of the Passover feast (Shulchan Orech). Instead of eating the festive meal, consider fulfilling Shulchan Orech by taking the following actions: ● DONATE the amount that would have been spent on food to UNRWA; ● DEMAND that the Biden administration refund UNRWA. ●CALL ON the Biden administration to facilitate a permanent ceasefire in Gaza now.

Rabbi, Nonprofit Executive, and Community Builder | Nurturing strategic partnerships & developing programming to support the next generation of Jewish leaders through Birthright Israel and Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun
It's been over 40 days since the tragic Saturday of October 7 that altered our world forever. Forty days and nights filled with countless painful questions. Just over 6 weeks ago, Israel endured a horrific terrorist attack that shook the very fabric of our collective consciousness. Since that dark day, a remarkable outpouring of global support has unfolded. People of all faiths have united, showcasing unprecedented acts of solidarity. Financial aid, essential supplies for soldiers and displaced citizens, and innumerable heartfelt gestures have demonstrated the strength of our shared humanity. I take pride in sharing that Taglit-Birthright Israel, through its Onward Israel, has responded swiftly by launching two-week volunteer opportunities for individuals aged 18-40. The first wave of volunteers has already landed, representing nations such as the USA, Canada, Argentina, France, Finland, Costa Rica, and Spain—standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel. For those of us in America, we find ourselves straddling two worlds—attempting to maintain our daily routines while staying tethered to the news, grieving for our Israeli brothers and sisters, and contributing in any way possible from a distance. As our nation turns its attention to the Thanksgiving holiday, our hearts hold a complex tapestry of emotions—sadness and gratitude intertwined. Amidst our ongoing mourning and support for loved ones in Israel, we draw strength from the incredible generosity and solidarity within our communities. Our unity, our shared sense of purpose, is nothing short of inspiring. While we yearn for the day when Birthright Israel participants once again fill the streets of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Tsfat, and ascend Masada, we recognize the current urgency. October 7 left us no choice but to commit ourselves to rebuilding our people and our nation once again. Moses spent 40 days on the mountain. Now, a bit more than 40 days into this war, this—rebuilding—is our generation's calling. If you can volunteer or know someone who can, let's roll up our sleeves and stand together. Until the time we can physically reunite, let our actions speak volumes. More Info: https://lnkd.in/efw_-cBb #VolunteerForIsrael #StandWithSolidarity #thanksgiving2023

So eloquently written...
Just over a week ago, on 7 October 2023, on the Jewish festival day of rejoicing, Simchat Torah, a massacre took place by Hamas in southern Israel. To date, over 1,300 are confirmed murdered – young people butchered, babies beheaded, old women shot in the head. An unconfirmed number of hostages, thought to be about 150, were kidnapped to Gaza, including large numbers of small children. If you have not yet watched any of the video footage put out by Hamas, I suggest that you do not do so. You will be scarred for life. Last night, I held in my arms the mother of one of these young women, kidnapped to Gaza. Her mother has watched that footage and knows what may happen to her daughter. If you pray, pray for her. Palestinian children also died today. My heart breaks for every innocent child and I can guarantee you that every person I know in Israel feels the same way. When Hamas succeeds in targeting Israeli civilians, including babies, they celebrate. They take innocent children and parade them, bloodied and terrified, through the streets. This is not about Palestine v Israel. It’s about Hamas, a terrorist organisation. For a short time, there has been international sympathy for Israel. We know that that will not last, as the world sees pictures of dead, injured and displaced Gazans. There will be calls for restraint, for proportionality. What is proportionate to what took place last week? If Hamas would hand back the hostages, then there can be calls for restraint. But it will not happen. They knew the consequences of their actions last week. There will be no marches on the streets of London against the Palestinians. No Muslim children will be unable to go to school in London for fear of physical violence. Yet Jewish schools have had to close their doors, children told to take off their school blazers on public transport, and not to wear any outward sign of their religious adherence. Of course there is sympathy amongst our personal friends. But where people flew Ukrainian flags, who will have the courage to fly an Israeli flag? Make no mistake, this is something on a scale unseen in my lifetime. Hamas did not enter Israel to gain land, or to save the lives of Palestinians, they did it to murder Israelis. And Israel will now do what it needs to do to deal with Hamas. I ask only this of you: do not assume that you know the history of Israel by watching the BBC. Educate yourselves. Ask yourself if you would feel safe letting your young child walk in the middle of the march of Palestinian supporters in London, wearing a skull cap. And try to understand why Jews need Israel, the only place they can go when they are, once again, made to feel unsafe in their own homes outside of Israel. To my Muslim friends: my heart breaks for you, too. May we speedily know peace in our days.

Israel must keep going until all of their hostages are released and the people of Gaza are free from Hamas. Any mention of a cease-fire until that happens is simply preposterous. The World can not rest until Hamas is defeated. Hamas is the enemy of the Jews, Palestinians, and the entire civilized world. Many people have asked what they can do to help. SupportIsraelNow.net is raising money for 4 key efforts. All overhead costs are covered by Westland Real Estate Group and the Alevy family. Every Dollar raised goes to the front lines of this battle. Put in the notes where you want your money to go: -Gear for front-line soldiers -Joy and morale for front-line soldiers -Village Security -Awareness efforts on college campuses -If you don't have a preference, just leave the notes blank. Israel is not alone.
