'Please Be Seated', the installation "walking the line between a craft object and a design solution," as the designer quotes, is nestled in the bustling Finsbury Avenue Square of London's Broadgate neighbourhood Designed by Paul Cocksedge, the art installation aimed to bring focus to the reuse and repurpose of construction waste. Crafted from 1,152 reclaimed scaffolding boards, each meticulously planed and sanded, "Please Be Seated" emerges as a striking fusion of sustainability and ingenuity. With its sweeping curves and concentric circles, this piece of art and architecture serves as more than just a place to sit; it's a dynamic invitation to engage with the urban landscape in a whole new way. But what truly sets "Please Be Seated" apart is its seamless integration into the fabric of the community. A rippling wave rises up to form arches for people to pass beneath and curves under to create spaces to sit, lie and relax in Please Be Seated. It was designed to complement the ebb and flow of pedestrian life; this installation doesn't just occupy space—it enhances it without obstructing it.
