🌿 A Deep Dive into Community, Challenges, and Change at the Shropshire Inclusion Network Gathering 🌿 Last Tuesday was no ordinary Tuesday - we were in the heart of North Shropshire, at the historic Oswestry Memorial Hall, surrounded by some of the most passionate and driven individuals I’ve ever met. All thanks to the #ShropshireInclusionNetwork. The gathering was personally impactful. It wasn’t just about the struggles of starting a rural business—though we talked plenty about that. It was about understanding the extra hurdles faced by those dealing with trauma, mental health issues, and simply trying to find support in places where it seems scarce. Oswestry Memorial Hall itself played a big role in our discussions. Donated by Mrs. Parry Jones in 1906, this place isn’t just a building; it’s a living legacy of community support. It was fascinating to hear from Paul Newman, our host, about its history and how it continues to be a hub for making, selling, and connecting. But it was the people, not just the place, that made the day. Paul shared how he works to knit different organisations and individuals into a community tapestry that’s stronger and more vibrant for its diversity. Jo Hazell - Watkins from #TheSomaSpace and Ben Wilson from Osnosh CIC were standouts, sharing their journeys and how they use physical movement and food to bring people together and support those facing tough times. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it feels like we’re onto something big here. Our aim is to keep this momentum going as we visit more rural spots across Shropshire, focusing on: 👍 Giving community supporters and business owners a space to recharge and learn. 👍 Driving home the importance of inclusion through real stories and practices. 👍 Boosting rural venues to bring benefits to the whole area. This wasn’t just another networking event. It was a reminder of the resilience and potential within our communities, and the power of coming together to face challenges head-on. Let’s keep the conversation going and make every space one where everyone feels they belong. Supporting one's community is an essential aspect of fostering a thriving society. From enhancing social cohesion to promoting economic development, the benefits of community support are manifold and deeply ingrained in the fabric of human society. This essay aims to delve into the significance of supporting one's community and elucidate why it should be considered a priority for individuals and groups alike. First and foremost, supporting one's community cultivates a sense of belonging and unity among its members. Human beings are inherently social creatures, and a strong sense of community fosters connections and relationships that are crucial for overall well-being. By actively participating in community initiatives, individuals forge bonds with their neighbors, creating a support network that can provide assistance in times of need. This interconnectedness not only strengthens social ties but also imbues individuals with a sense of identity and purpose, contributing to their overall happiness and satisfaction with life. Moreover, supporting the community is instrumental in addressing local issues and fostering positive change. Every community faces its unique set of challenges, whether they be economic disparities, environmental concerns, or social inequalities. By rallying together and pooling resources, community members can collaborate to tackle these issues effectively. Whether it involves volunteering at a local food bank, participating in neighborhood clean-up efforts, or advocating for policy changes, collective action is often the most potent tool for driving meaningful progress at the grassroots level. Through collaborative efforts, communities can create safer, healthier, and more inclusive environments for all residents. Furthermore, supporting one's community has tangible economic benefits. Local businesses form the backbone of many communities, providing goods, services, and employment opportunities to residents. By choosing to patronize local establishments rather than multinational corporations, individuals can contribute to the vitality of their community's economy. Additionally, supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, as it creates a conducive environment for new ventures to flourish. Moreover, when community members invest in local businesses, a greater portion of the revenue circulates within the community, stimulating further economic activity and growth. #InSightYFC #nonprofit #community #ThriveTogether #LocalEconomy #SocialCohesion #GrassrootsAction #UnityInDiversity #SupportLocal #CommunitySupport #InclusiveCommunities #BuildingBetterTogether #EmpowerThroughCommunity

It's not community empowerment if you aren't putting power in the hands of community members. What can empowerment look like (non-exhaustive list)? - Leadership roles - Resources ($$$, grants, meeting locations, etc.) - Decision making capacity - Skills and knowledge Community engagement is not empowerment. Community engagement looks at bringing together stakeholders for a given community wether geographic or special interest (residents, organizations, governmental offices, etc.) to collaboratively explore ways to address a shared concern/issue to grow collective wellbeing. What can community engagement look like (non-exhaustive list)? - Community listening sessions - Community need and asset mapping - Practices for collective brainstorming A lot of times I hear groups and governments saying they're practicing community empowerment or community engagement and what I see is them doing surveys (usually online) or a few listening sessions. And those tactics usually result in low responses/participation due to poor outreach. They didn't go door to door. They didn't go to churches, to sports clubs, to schools, to assisted living centers, to civic groups, to local non-profits/NGO's. And they most certainly didn't engage in collaborative listening and brainstorming processes with all impacted/relevant stakeholders or put power in the hands of community members. Community empowerment and engagement takes time (especially if you're just starting). They take trust. They take relationships. They take getting out there and doing the work. They take recognizing that those closest to the issues should be leading the solutions and resourcing them to do so. #CommunityEmpowerment #CommunityEngagement

After seven years working bringing communities and organisations together to explore new possibilities in the face of poverty and (inhumane) technology, we've learnt that organisations only invest in understanding what's important to those they exist to serve if they'll receive value from it. That's ok - the solutions, spaces and insights we create should by mutually beneficial - but where do you see the value in community engagement? https://lnkd.in/ewPr794H

The Importance of Community Support for Uplifting Everyone In the intricate tapestry of human existence, the threads of community support weave a resilient fabric that uplifts not just individuals but the entire societal framework. Embracing a collective ethos of support fosters an environment where everyone can thrive, and this interconnectedness becomes a cornerstone for the well-being of society as a whole. Communities are the bedrock of human interaction, serving as platforms for shared experiences, values, and aspirations. When individuals within a community support one another, a ripple effect ensues, reaching beyond the immediate beneficiaries. The bonds forged through support create a sense of belonging, fostering a collective identity that transcends individual differences. This unity becomes a powerful force, capable of overcoming challenges and uplifting those who might otherwise falter. Support within a community is a catalyst for personal and collective growth. By providing resources, guidance, and encouragement, individuals are empowered to realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to the community. As each member flourishes, the overall strength and resilience of the community grow exponentially. In turn, this collective upliftment leads to a positive cycle where a thriving community contributes to the well-being of its individual members, creating a reciprocal relationship that benefits everyone. Moreover, a supportive community acts as a safety net during times of adversity. Life's challenges are inevitable, and in times of crisis, a robust community support system becomes a lifeline for those in need. Whether facing economic hardships, health crises, or emotional distress, knowing that one is not alone creates a foundation for resilience and recovery. In conclusion, the importance of supporting the community cannot be overstated. It is a symbiotic relationship where individuals thrive within a supportive community, and the community, in turn, flourishes with empowered individuals. By fostering a culture of support, we create a society where the upliftment of one becomes the upliftment of all, building a stronger, more resilient, and compassionate world for everyone to inhabit. #InSightYFC #CommunityUplift #ThriveTogether #SupportiveSociety #CollectiveStrength #UnityInDiversity #community #communities
