"Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to earn the trust of foreign owners of the jets we fly and care for. Often, we start flight departments from scratch, with owners wanting at least one 'local' crew member. This is not always easy, so we rely on firms that specialize in placing crew members with operators. I have experienced the best and the worst of these services, and the best by far has been BizJetJobs. BizJetJobs is fully connected and actively involved in the system that keeps us flying. There have been many times when I needed someone within 24 hours. BizJetJobs would get on the phone, knowing I was stuck in a remote part of the world, and screen top candidates for me. The quality of these pilots was thoroughly vetted, making my selection quick and easy. Unlike other services, there are no copy-cat listings; what you see is what you get. It’s refreshing to speak with someone who knows exactly what we need and how to get the ball rolling. On several occasions, I hired pilots through BizJetJobs and left them with my job! Whether it's a part-time, one-off position, or a full-time contract, I will continue to call BizJetJobs. They understand the deal. We live the deal." - Brent C.

Let’s talk “Home-Basing” for 135 operations (for those who are wondering how this works). Short explanation = the option of living almost anywhere you choose while being provided transportation by the operator to the aircraft's location on the first day of your work rotation, and back home on the last day. Schedules are typically 7/7, 8/6, 12/10, 15/13 (ex. 7 days on rotation; 7 days home; 8 days on / 6 days home, etc.). Some operators have general restrictions on where their home-based pilots can reside. For instance, some require that you live within one hour of a major airport; some require that you live within one hour of one of their strategically placed hubs in the U.S.; some require that you live in certain states or time zones based on where they typically operate. (Note: most home-based 135 operators based in the lower 48, hire pilots in the lower 48 states.) I’ve met quite a few low-time pilots who want to continue living where they live and find a flying job that is NOT flight instruction. 🤔 I don’t want to bust any bubbles, but your chances of finding these home-basing opportunities under 1200 TT are probably slim to none. The low-time flying jobs available under 1000 – 1200 TT are most likely going to require you to move somewhere unless you are fortunate to live where they are based. If you don’t want to move and you do not live in an area where there are many aviation-related companies, your job search is going to be a bit tougher. Not impossible, but tougher… My best suggestion for low-time pilots… be open to moving for a year or so. If you find a position with heavy flying; move to that location, rack up hours and then apply for a home-based position where you can move back closer to your home or wherever your heart desires (within approximately one hour of a major airport 😎). If there are any aviation recruiters out there who are hiring low-time pilots into home-based opportunities, please comment! (My comments only apply to 135 operators; I am not aware of scheduling or residence requirements for 121 operations.)

Considering a Part 91 Pilot Position?? Questions to Ask Part 2... Here are more questions to ask as you get further in the process...refer to my earlier post re: initial questions to ask when interviewing for a Part 91 gig. The following questions are suggested as you get further in the interview process. I would not ask most of these questions in the first phone screen. Owner’s Expectations: - What are the owner's expectations for availability and flexibility? - How often are flights scheduled last minute? - Are there any additional duties outside of flying? Aircraft Maintenance and Safety: - How is the aircraft maintained, and who is responsible for its upkeep/cleanliness (you'll want to be aware if you are responsible for cleaning the lav!)? - What is the owner's commitment to safety and compliance with FAA regulations? Aircraft and Equipment: - Does the owner have plans to buy more planes or to swap this one out for a different AC later? - Is this the owner's first plane? How long have they owned this plane? Operational Procedures: - What are the standard operating procedures and policies in place? - How are flight plans and trips typically coordinated? Is all flight planning done by the pilots? Job Security and Contract Terms: - Is there a formal contract, and what are the terms? - What is the job security like, and how long have previous pilots typically stayed in this position? Remember that it is a good idea to negotiate a severance package in the event the owner sells the plane and shuts down operations. 😎 Taking the time to ask these questions once you are further into the interview process will help you gain a comprehensive understanding of the position and ensure it’s the right fit for you. -------- If you find this info useful or helpful, please "Like" and consider Reposting. #Aviation #PilotLife #CareerAdvice #PrivateAviation #Part91 #PilotJobs
