Is this the future of education? Would you consider enrolling your child in a SLANT-based school? Advocates of no-excuses policies in schools argue that progressive, child-centered approaches that spread in the 1970s caused a behavioral crisis, reduced learning, and hindered social mobility. The policy is called “Slant” (Sit up, Lean forward, Ask and answer questions, Nod your head, and Track the speaker). The argument in favor of SLANT? Wealthy children can afford to waste time at school because “their parents take them to museums and art galleries,” In contrast, for children from poorer backgrounds, “the only way you’re going to know about some Roman history is if you’re in your school learning.” Should we instead advocate for a balanced approach that offers all children, regardless of their economic status, access to an environment that fosters discipline alongside creativity and freedom? #FutureOfEducation #SLANTSchool #NoExcusesPolicy #DisciplineInSchools #CreativityInEducation #EducationalReform #HolisticDevelopment

They discuss systemic racism within the British education system and the long-term impact of racism on the lived experiences of young Black men. 👂🏾Please listen with respect and ACT upon what they are telling you that the system needs. 🔸Watch our webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eitmZ5UH #BlackBoys #Education #Schools #SystemicChange 🧡

Robert John Meehan is a renowned educator, author and poet whose work has inspired so many individuals to become educators. His work is a continual reminder of the difference we are making in the lives of others.
Robert John Meehan, an American educator and author, has contributed a wealth of thought-provoking and inspiring quotes on education and teaching. Here are some of his most popular quotes: "You can't fix education until you fix the community; education is not a building but a lifestyle and an environment." "By nature, teachers teach; by choice, teachers choose the manner in which they teach." "Is the current goal 'good schools' for some, just as we have 'good health care' for some, 'good housing' for some, and 'good food' for some?" "Our children are not tone deaf. If we continue to poison our children with the current political tone of society, we will have no one to blame but ourselves for the cacophony of the future." "A gifted teacher is not only prepared to meet the needs of today's child but is also prepared to foresee the hopes and dreams in every child's future." These quotes highlight Meehan's emphasis on the importance of community involvement in education, the power of teachers to shape the future, and the need for equity in education.

Many of our children underperform in public schools because, in many cases, there is a lack of representation due to systemic racism. Historically, schools in marginalized communities were never designed to effectively educate Black and Brown children. This has resulted in a persistent achievement gap, where students of color are often deprived of equitable resources, culturally relevant curricula, and supportive learning environments. To truly support all students, we must confront and dismantle these systemic barriers, ensuring that every child receives the quality education they deserve. #schoolchoice #urbaneducation #schooltransformation #schoolinnovation

What would you say to a kid denied his education for 286 days? And here is how YOU can help #ChangeTheWorld for other similar kids TODAY. The big news is that #TheJoshieMan now has a school! I'm going to sit him down tonight, and we'll read your celebratory comments together, and treasure this moment as the best day in his life so far! ❤️ However, this has never been about #TJM. Let's now focus on the 10,000's of kids denied an appropriate education just because they are different. Just. Because. They. Are. Different. #DifferentNotLess. 👂I'm all ears!..........Please help today in informing society as to the most pressing topics in #Education that kids with additional needs face. I've made a start with eight themes I've been hearing recently (see comments), but for sure I've missed important topics, and I've not reflected each topic comprehensively. 💕 Please tag in those people who have voices that should be heard, and those who are doing great things to help inform the debate. 💁♀️ Please tag in those people who are being failed and might need some community support. ⁉️PS: Help me fill in the gaps, and prioritise what needs to change! Neurodivergent Thinking | revelatory neurodiversity training, mentoring, and coaching. Chief ADHDer and founder at Complex Strengths, Co-illuminated Coaching, and The Neurodiverse Universe.
🧠💗 To support neurodiversity paradigm AND trauma Informed classrooms, AND empower Young People against bullying and abuse we can teach about brains and neurology from the beginning. This helps all teachers and families learn too . In key stage1, ages 5-7years children learn about homophones, prefixes, suffixes, fractions, multiplying and dividing, mammals, amphibians and habitats. Key stage 2, 7-11 years, curriculum learning can include: anaphylaxis, cystic fibrosis, identity, substance abuse, anger management, conflict resolution, microorganisms, reproduction, platelets, plasma, and health. The big thing missing, in my eyes, is the brain itself. In fact learning about the brain, neurology, neurotransmitters and the limbic system not only would fit in perfectly, it would link and support a lot of the curriculum and pastoral aims of schools. Our aim is to improve the school experience for everyone, especially our neurodivergent Young People, by using art, fun, and neuroscience to empower all children and change minds about behaviour. Working toward a neurodiversity informed, neurodivergence positive culture, while making this work as easily as possible for all educators. https://lnkd.in/eCtR4X4q
