Get to know us! Historic 6th on Route 66 Association We are a 501 C 6 non profit organization comprised of merchants and fans of Historic Route 66. Any one can join, contact us for membership details. What we share is a common goal for keeping historic Route 66 alive and kicking! Our focus is on Amarillo, but we work with all parts of Route 66, Downtown Amarillo and historic preservation groups to accomplish our goals. Our Goals Are Simple Drive Traffic to Historic Route 66. Pool efforts and resources. Know our neighbors and their concerns. We do this by: Providing signage and information to arrive on Historic Route 66. Communicating our presence, events and offerings to the world. Improving the visitor experience. Facilitating and hosting events and activities. Preserve, Promote and Protect the infrastructure. What we need: Members who share our common goals. Project Volunteers. Signage locations and property. Along, to, and from Historic Route 66. The Small Acts of Community campaign kicks off today. Focused on the belief that small acts of community have great worth - this is something I’m super proud to be a part of. One of the lines of the student oath for taekwondo has always been my favorite “I shall build a more peaceful world.” I have always believed that world starts with the small things and those build up, add up, and inspire others. It was the premise behind my only large scale solo art show (featured about 4000 origami cranes). Today, as part of my professional work, and in joyous activism, we will be asking people to commit acts of community. Could be an act of kindness - say hello, hold a door open. Could be a larger act of community - help pick up some trash, help your neighbor out, volunteer your time with an organization near and dear to your heart. Things that are free and don’t cost a thing. Got some spare money - donate it to a good cause. Before you say but I don’t have any money - as part of the smaller events leading up to today, I was handed $1.23 from the pocket of an obviously unhoused man after taking with him about the campaign and we were told to put it to the community. We had a wonderful session today at Porticus on how to improve our Meaningful Participation practices and processes and we want to bring other organizations along in this discussion. What local issues do the nonprofit partners in Spur Local's 2024 Class work to address? Short answer: Everything! Many of these issues are inter-connected. This year's community-based organizations preserve and elevate stories of local history, equip the next generation to be engaged civic leaders, cultivate vibrant regional food systems, and directly provide services and support across our region. Together, they work holistically to make Greater Washington more equitable, reminding us that collaboration strengthens our collective impact. ArtsHERE Statement of Interest Closes: January 19, 2024!! https://lnkd.in/g_z2mw_8 FUNDED ORGANIZATIONS WILL RECEIVE: Investment: Managed by South Arts, ArtsHERE will award approximately 95 nonprofit organizations with nonmatching grants of $65,000 to $130,000. Grants are for specific projects that will strengthen each organization’s capacity to sustain meaningful community engagement and increase arts participation for underserved groups/communities. Learning: ArtsHERE will offer grantees peer-learning and technical assistance opportunities, designed to share knowledge and build networks. Evaluation: As a pilot program, ArtsHERE will be documented and evaluated by the National Endowment for the Arts to better understand the project activities supported through this program and how grantees approached the work, and to inspire others. The evaluation will result in a summary of lessons learned and may inform the future of ArtsHERE and other similar funding programs and practices.
