📣 Grant opportunity for nonprofits! Does your organization have a passion for mental health and a creative idea to bring mental health actions and education to your community for Mental Health Action Day on May 16th? MTV is offering grants to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations. This #MentalHealthAction Day, MTV is making grant funding available to empower nonprofit partners to produce innovative activations on the 4th annual Mental Health Action Day, a day dedicated to driving our mental health culture from awareness to action. What You Should Know: MTV is offering grants to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations to activate on Mental Health Action Day: Thursday, May 16th, 2024.   MTV's goal is to support organizations with grants that can bring to life activations that reach young people directly, with a particular focus on those that reach communities lacking access to mental health resources. While no idea is too big or small, the majority of grants will be $2,500- $7,000 with a maximum of $10,000. Activations that engage their local community to learn and practice A.S.K. (Acknowledge, Support, Keep-In-Touch | asktohelp.com), the new ‘stop, drop and roll’ for emotional support developed in partnership with Active Minds, Inc., a leading youth-focused mental health non-profit, will be given special consideration as we aim to empower people to know how to respond when their friends or loved ones reach out to them for help. The Mission of ThorpeWood Since its inception in 2001, ThorpeWood has undergone several transformations. Initially established by a charitable trust, it aimed to serve the community at no cost using the natural resources available on its property. The focus was primarily on helping youth involved in the juvenile justice system through nature-based mental health and social-emotional learning opportunities. After some changes in leadership and staffing about ten years ago, Kaili was hired to realign ThorpeWood with its original mission. Today, the organization emphasizes evidence-based practices to develop nature-based mental health programs. Three Prongs of Service ThorpeWood’s approach to serving the community can be broken down into three key areas: Partnerships with Local Nonprofits: ThorpeWood collaborates with organizations like Centro Hispano, which supports unaccompanied minors and English learners, and Kids Like Us, a program for children impacted by substance use disorders. These partnerships allow ThorpeWood to tailor their programs to the unique needs of each group, leveraging the nonprofits’ knowledge of their clients. ThorpeWood-Created Programs: These include nature-based grief support and other mental health initiatives that Kaili and her team develop based on the needs of the community. For example, grief counseling is a significant part of Kaili's work, enriched by the natural setting of ThorpeWood. Climate Grief Support: This innovative program combines traditional grief support with opportunities for sustained activism. Participants develop distress tolerance and emotion regulation techniques to channel their emotions into meaningful action amidst the climate crisis.
