An important contribution to overcoming challenges in biofilm research! We are especially excited to see priority question 3.1 "How can we more accurately model biofilms in vitro, in order to better reflect the in vivo/real world situation?".

A study led by Duke-NUS' Centre for Outbreak Preparedness found that outbreak detection in South and Southeast Asia is under-resourced, with only half of the countries integrating genomic surveillance initiatives in their national plans.
Published in Nature Microbiology, the study outlines key priorities to improve pandemic preparedness in the region.

Exciting research this month from University of Bath on iuc3 plasmids in Klebsiella pneumoniae. Working with MicrobesNG, the team used a combination of short and long reads to characterise iuc3-carrying plasmids from K.pneumoniae isolated from Thailand and Italy 🦠
A key finding was the identification of seven large plasmids that likely emerged through hybridisation of co-circulating plasmids harbouring iuc3 and antimicrobial resistance genes.
If you are interested in short or long reads sequencing service for your research project, please get in touch to discuss with our friendly team.

🦓 It's #RareDiseaseDay and the Nabsys team is proud to #ShowYourStripes to bring awareness to rare disease research 🦓
Worldwide, over 300 million people are living with rare diseases. Too often, these individuals and families are left isolated and without answers to their medical questions.
🧬 We’re working hard at Nabsys to develop the next generation of structural variant analysis to help fuel the future of #rarediseaseresearch 🧬
Rare Disease Day is a global initiative to raise awareness and generate support for everyone who is on a rare medical journey. Today, on the rarest day of the year, February 29th we are honored to support this initiative driven by the National Organization for Rare Disorders, the trusted voice of the more than 30 million Americans living with a rare disease.

📣 Calling all scientists!
NIEHS invites you to enter an exciting new DREAM Challenge aimed at tackling high cholesterol using data available from the institute’s Personalized Environment and Genes Study (PEGS)!
PEGS integrates genetic and environmental data to understand disease etiology, identify risk factors, and improve disease prevention.
Challenge participants will compete in two tasks.
· Task One: Participants use PEGS data to classify individual risk of high cholesterol, using whatever data component(s) they choose.
· Task Two: Participants generate creative hypotheses about high cholesterol beyond known clinical risk factors.
Winners will present their results at a conference and be cited as first authors on papers describing the results. All participants may also be included as authors in papers describing the Challenge.
Submissions for the PEGS DREAM Challenge are now open through August 15, 2024! Winners will be announced August 31.

Is your OMICS research truly protected from Sample Spoilage and Viability Loss ??
In the pursuit of scientific precision, #sample_integrity is often overlooked, yet it is essential for generating accurate, reproducible data in microbiome and #OMICS research. Despite best practices, traditional preservation methods can compromise your results, particularly with fastidious, anaerobic, and slow-growing microbes. #BiomLife® offers a cutting-edge solution that preserves the #genetic and #metabolic integrity of microbial samples, ensuring they remain viable and fully re-culturable for extended periods.
BiomLife® (#formalin_free), is a #DEEPTECH solution is an ideal for a wide range of applications - including microbiome studies, personalized medicine, disease diagnostics, bio-banking, infectious disease research, epidemiology and forensics investigations. BiomLife® supports flexible storage conditions, allowing samples to remain stable at RT for the first 48 hours, simplifying global transportation without cold chain logistics. For long-term preservation, samples can be stored at -80°C for over two years without #undesired_microbial_proliferation or mutual_inhibition in consortia.
Its noise-free technology ensures no interference with results, #delivering_the_most_accurate_reliable_and_reproducible_data.
