About us
Blastocystis colonizes at least one billion people. It the most prevalent intestinal microbial eukaryote. A high proportion of carriers are asymptomatic. Despite a century of studies, pathogenicity of Blastocystis remains controversial. Information on prevalence, geographic distribution and host specificity is incomplete. Substantial gaps exist on environmental presence of Blastocystis. This lack of data blurs the Blastocystis landscape considerably. Our COST Action brings together experts from diverse fields and locations to support the research in this field.

A joint effort to fulfil the Action's deliverable on databases with curated data. Reliable sequence data and standardised terminology are essential for advances in the #Blastocystis field
Don't believe in everything you see! One of the missions of the Blastocystis EU COST Action is to expand and promote work related to curated database functions, focusing on maintaining a standardised terminology and minimising the risk of misidentification based on molecular data.
