It was great attending the AI Fringe conference this morning. Listening to the discussions off the back of the Seoul Summit from a diverse panel around AI safety, responsibility and ethics was incredibly interesting! It goes without saying that AI is a very fast paced, growing area, but with that has to come the security, responsibility and other considerations of creating, using and commercialising AI models. One topic from the panel I'd like to highlight is data literacy. To have productive and coherent conversations around AI, everyone involved needs to know what AI is! - Where is the data coming from? - How is it used? - How is your data being protected? - What do we mean by bias in data? Empowering everyone in society with the knowledge of how their data is used is incredibly important. Whether high level or technical, this knowledge does not just belong to the few. AI is for everyone and things need to evolve with regards to policy and digital rights. Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical, there are some easy things we can do within our organisations to get started: ℹ️ Be transparent about our AI tools - provide non-technical descriptions and explanations 💡 Share the knowledge - e.g. run internal learning sessions on different topics at a high level 🗣️ Encourage open conversations about AI and data Do you have any others to add to this list? #AIFringe

At #ATD24 there were oodles of AI sessions to attend. The expo was filled with software companies who had begun adding AI to their existing product. And I saw an opportunity to leverage AI by the conference in custom curating an attendee-specific schedule for the future. But at ATD23, AI wasn't found at all. I'm reminded of other times of disruption and innovation in history. -The assembly line from Ford motor companies. -The introduction of the Polaroid camera. -The first test email prior to the modern internet. -Napster allows for music-centric file sharing -The Euro is adopted. -Netflix launches. I could go on and on. Change is one of the few things we can count on in life. I'm not immune to the desire to cling rigidly at times. That said, who does it serve when we look at change through the lens of fear rather that optimism and curiosity? This TED talk is short and sweet. In it he shares initiatives and their impact implemented by the Singaporean government to embrace the change instituted by AI. My big takeaway? Lifelong learning, both formally and informally, will be the only way humanity can move forward. Give it a watch.
