PSA for all my safety-minded friends: Effective January 16, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) raised the penalties for workplace safety violations to maintain their deterrent effect and promote compliance with the law. The regulator's maximum penalties for serious and other-than-serious violations have increased by 3.24% from $15,625 per violation to $16,131 per violation. The maximum penalty for willful or repeated violations has also increased from $156,259 per violation to $161,323 per violation. It's important to note that a majority of OSHA's mission is enforcement of fines and as outlined above, they can be quite costly. However, with some diligence, these fines can be avoided.
