If you want your direct report to take more PTO… show them don’t just tell them. 👉 Take ALL of your own PTO (show them it's possible even at a higher level) 👉 Don’t work during your own PTO (show them you trust your own boss and the team to support you and value your time off) 👉 Don’t call them during their PTO (show them respect and allow them time away) 👉 Support them while they’re out (including putting a system into place to cover people on PTO) 👉 Encourage them to take PTO (especially if it's been a while since they have) 👉 Bring up PTO in meetings (highlight how taking days off is beneficial and celebrate people using PTO) Often times we ask our people to do something that contradicts what we're showing them through our actions. You have to walk the walk and talk the talk if you want true change to occur. Enjoy your PTO!

Unlimited PTO? How about required PTO? Many organizations have transitioned to the concept of unlimited time off. While it can be a wonderful benefit, having unlimited time off with very strict performance goals can be a catch 22.
