As the aquaculture industry faces the challenge of finding cost-effective and environmentally friendly feed solutions, one promising alternative has emerged – lupine (Lupinus spp.). This versatile legume has garnered increasing attention for its nutritional value and potential to revolutionize the way we approach aquafeed formulations. A team of researchers from the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (India) published a scientific review exploring the potential of lupine in the aquaculture industry, focusing on its nutritional value, digestibility, and impact on the health and growth of fish. The researchers also analyze recent findings, challenges, and possible advancements to provide insights into how lupine could drive the development of sustainable aquaculture techniques. Lupine, a versatile legume grown in various regions, is rich in protein and has a balanced profile of essential amino acids crucial for the optimal growth and development of fish. Moreover, research has indicated that the inclusion of lupine in fish diets can positively affect fish health, potentially improving their immune response and overall well-being. #lupine #blueeconomy #blueeconomy #aquaculture

We are delighted to announce that a recent study has revealed that Maltento’s high protein digest product, Palate+, has led to substantial changes to the well-being of Rainbow Trout, including increased immune system responses and a lower mortality rate 🎉 The high protein digest is produced from protein-rich larvae that are farmed from our very own Black Soldier Flies (BSF), one of the few insect species approved to be used as feed in aquaculture in the European Union. The study was conducted by marine surveyor company MariHealth Solutions, and took place at the Sanlei trout farm in Lesotho 🌍 Dean Smorenburg, CEO of Maltento, explains: “The study compared the blood proteome profiles between two groups of fish; one was fed food supplemented by Palate+, and the other was fed a standard basal diet. The analysis demonstrated enhanced immunity in trout fed Palate+. The boost in immunity is likely due to the presence of Chitin and unique proteins in Palate+, which have been shown to stimulate the fish's immune system”. Join us in celebrating this incredible achievement alongside The Fish Site, as we continue to position Maltento as a key player in the global pet and aqua feed industries🏆 #aqua #feed #trout #innovation #technology #science #research #BSF #global #announcement

Transforming Aquaculture with Probiotics: A Multidisciplinary Approach 🌊 The quest for sustainable aquaculture, especially in shrimp production, demands a nuanced understanding of the complex interactions between environment, host, and microbes. Here's why probiotics are pivotal in this journey: 🔬 Microbes: Managing microbial load is crucial for controlling pathogens. Probiotics can help balance these microbes, reducing the risk of disease outbreaks. 🌍 Environment: Effective environmental control is key. From optimizing system design and water quality to using wastewater treatment probiotics like TipTopp Pond, maintaining a healthy environment supports shrimp health and growth. 👥 Host: The performance and health of shrimp hinge on several factors including high-quality fry selection, optimal handling, and superior feed management. Nutraceuticals and feed probiotics like TipTopp Gut can enhance gut health and overall performance. 💧 Stress Management: Stress is a silent disruptor of shrimp health. Probiotics can play a role in alleviating stress and boosting immune function. 🦠 Pathogen Control: Hygiene, biosecurity, and monitoring systems are crucial. Integrating probiotics for Vibrio control, such as TipTopp Pond, can provide an extra layer of defense against harmful pathogens. In conclusion, a holistic approach that integrates probiotics across all aspects—environment, host, and microbial management—can significantly enhance the sustainability and productivity of aquaculture. 🌟 Let's champion the role of probiotics in shaping the future of sustainable shrimp farming! #Aquaculture #Sustainability #Probiotics #ShrimpFarming #EnvironmentalManagement #MicrobialHealth #Innovation

A recent study published in the prestigious journal Reviews in Fisheries Science and Aquaculture highlights the challenge of finding alternative protein sources to reduce the dependence of aquatic nutrition on marine ingredients. The research, led by Dr. Brett Glencross, Technical Director of IFFO, the International Marine Ingredients Organisation, together with a team of researchers, explores a wide range of protein sources currently used in aquaculture feeds. Options examined include traditional marine ingredients, processed animal proteins from by-products of human food production, insect and worm meal, single-celled proteins such as those obtained from bacteria and microalgae, and various plant-based sources such as cereals, oilseeds and legumes. The latter account for the bulk of global aquatic feed production and are used in both raw and processed form. #blueeconomy #bluetransformation #aquaculture
