Several recruiters came to me recently, asking me for advice in this shakey market, so I thought to share a few key points from our conversations here: - "inch wide, miles deep" advice I had from Nick Waterworth during my Ambition days, keep specializing and developing relationships with your candidates/clients, and make sure they remember you for YOU - if you're looking out, speak to former trusted managers and colleagues, they can be the eyes and ears in the market for you - be excited about what's next, your energy manifests and the market turnaround could be sooner than you think - your skills are VERY transferable, many ex-recruiters go to become great #accountmanagers, #productmanagers, #businessdevelopmanagers, or even #entrepreneurs, find your path (especially NOW because the opportunity costs are lower) Things could be tough out there, but we've all just got to 加油 a little more! Ask any unicorn exec level leader what their non negotiables are when looking to join a new company and you'll find a common one will be something about the Founders. What's the deal with Founders anyways? I've never been one so I can only speak to this so much. I have too much respect to enter into this role myself. But from my experience over the years (and those of many other superstar leaders I've connected with) there seems to be some strong commonalities. Many Founders have never built a business before. Many founders have never been a successful people manager before. Most have never had a role that spans more than one department in the GTM functions. So it's no wonder there are a lot of mistakes made. It's a lot of first time decisions. A common mistake that more Founders than not make, is who they hire for their GTM leadership and there doesn't seem to be quite enough resource out there to stop them from making these mistakes over and over. I love how the rejection criteria for promotion to Manager level, in one of the best firms (or so they say ) - 1. is to NOT have completed a certification 2. from their list of "Must Have's", 3. which keeps on changing from time to time, 4. even if those are irrelevant to the work that you do.
