Back to school. Ready to help shape the future of mobility? Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to first-year Computer Science and Business Informatics students at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt on their very first day of term and their campus #mobility day. Quite the honor! 🎓 As I was explaining what we as XL2 by Audi & Capgemini do, our role in the #automotive industry, and opportunities for student internships, two things really hit home: - There are many more women studying Computer Science and Business Informatics than when I was a student. Women accounted for around 30% of the students we spoke to. - There is a strong need for a bridge between the technical/theory side of subjects and real-world application. This was apparent to me when we walked students through some of the typical projects that XL2 does for its #automotive clients. Internships and working-student initiatives are an essential part of bridging these gaps and making the transition from student to working professional smoother. As it was mobility day on campus, we had an opportunity to talk specifically about how the skills being learned today could be applied within the context of mobility and the automotive industry. Today, there are so many ways for talented people with IT/technical backgrounds to contribute … - Software and digitalization are the highest priority right now for automakers and they figure to be for the foreseeable future – people with skills in these areas and a strong understanding of how to apply them will thrive. - Electrification, autonomous vehicles, mobility as a service, digital customer experiences – there are so many new and diverse domains to consider. For example, on our visit, we spoke about production and logistics. On the same day, we saw Capgemini Engineering colleagues showcasing their #autonomousdriving vehicle (an #Audi of course). - There is more competition in the market and the situation is changing fast. Graduates today won’t be contributing to maintaining the status quo – they’ll be working to shape a new competitive landscape. - The industry is more diverse than ever before, with people of all genders, backgrounds, and nationalities working together to help their brands get ahead. It’s a truly exciting place to be. And the best news of all … The automotive industry can’t wait to welcome you. There’s still a major shortage of tech talent and a strong need for new skills, profiles, and perspectives. 2023 flew by so fast I had no time to post an update. It has been yet another remarkable year for me as I completed my third internship with Tesla in August. My first 2 stints with Tesla were so fun and transformative I decided to look for my next supercharged adventure! My ultimate target was Vehicle Engineering. In my pursuit for a new adventure I met Trina and shared why I wanted to take on the unique challenge of being a PM on the Drive Systems Engineering Team. I was chosen shortly after interviewing with Sakthivel, Tasha, and Abhijit. Thank you all and Noelle for creating a seamless onboarding experience! The experiences I gained were invaluable. I learned the management side of Automotive Engineering by owning some of the coolest high-value projects! It was an absolute roller coaster. There were many hard lessons to learn. The stakes were high as I knew my response would ultimately define my value. The realities of ambitious challenges dawned on me as the pressures of leading programs for a time-sensitive mission-focused company grew super intense. Questioning the value of each decision. Pushing the boundaries of excellence. Taking calculated risks. Agile decision-making. Lean approaches. All were key! It was profoundly enriching to learn from the intense culture pioneered by Elon Musk. I yielded to his "fail fast learn fast" approach to quickly solve problems! Thank you Sakthivel, Mahathi, Shaheryar, Jeffrey, and Tasha for your mentorship, guidance, the opportunities, and all the electrifying adventures! This experience was more exhilarating and augmentative than I could've ever imagined. I'll never forget the people I met, friends I made, and lessons I learned. I've now resumed my schooling and I'm aiming to master new skills, perfect existing ones, kick off new endeavors, and help others pursue their dreams. From there I got to know about Loudspeakers and then just kept going. ❓What advice would you give to future students on the course? 🗨Learn German. It is more important than you realise.
