🧰 I really enjoyed attending Jobs for the Future (JFF)'s Horizons Summit last week in D.C. and learn from so many organizations, speakers, and peers on their efforts to advance #inclusive workforces and create equitable #economicopportunity as we think about the #futureofwork. One of the biggest highlights was certainly the opportunity connect with so many of the amazing leaders on our Talent Rewire team—Kimberly Shin (mysteriously missing at the time of this picture 🤔 ), Ulises Trujillo Rivera, and George Zaninovich, MURP—with whom our paths rarely cross in person despite working at the same organization. Their team's research and learning communities complement the #workforcedevelopment work that Chirlie Felix and Fay Hanleybrown lead from FSG's consulting unit. Other highlights from #JFFHorizons include: ⭐ Learning about new research from Prof. Raj Chetty and The Brookings Institution's Camille M. Busette on intergenerational mobility, economic connectedness, and social disconnection (I was shocked to learn Charlotte, NC is the least economically mobile city in the U.S. but hopeful to learn that Montogomery County, MD is both very diverse and economically mobile!) ⭐ Hearing from Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo about rethinking labor and the opportunity to elevate the role of #communitycolleges in rethinking career pathways and reskilling ⭐ Author Ta-Nehisi Coates's candor and vulnerable reflections on #privilege that we all have to some degree, be it gender, ability, class, sexual orientation or another dimension, and the small changes we can make to increase our awareness and ability to entertain behavior shift on a larger scale I'm carrying these and many other insights forward into our work on #economicmobility and #workforcedevelopment. #HorizonsOnLinkedIn

It was a great time trimming out the datacom rack live at the Vertical Cable booth during ISC West! Times like last week at ISC are outstanding reminders of how much more powerful and productive we are as an industry when we work together instead of against each other. Did I have to spend my time at ISC building out a rack and showing other integrators how they can do better? No - I could have walked the show floor as usual and seen a lot of cool stuff. Did I want to share knowledge and skills with other integrators? Heck yeah! Gate keeping “trade secrets” is ultimately nonproductive. Sharing knowledge and skills benefits everybody and moves the industry forward so that we all win! In true #communityovercompetition fashion, having the opportunity to meet so many fellow systems integrators and industry peers and share some tips and tricks on how they can take their installs to the next level is always a great experience. From quickly terminating keystone jacks, to labeling, to methods of perfectly dressing out patch panels, there was a LOT of productive conversation last week. For me, seeing people leave the booth with new knowledge that will change their game in a positive way is a win for the industry! Huge shoutout to VC for being such an integral partner in our day-to-day as a systems integrator and the industry as a whole.
