Founder + CEO @ Togather | Healthcare Strategy + Operations | Community Architect | Health Justice | Clinical Leadership | Virtual Care
It feels surreal to be making this announcement, FINALLY. When I say finally, I mean the project I’ve officially worked on for the past year has been living in my head and heart for a decade. If you know me personally or professionally you’ve likely heard me speak on the power of community. 👩🏿🤝👩🏻 Community got me through NP school with a toddler in tow. 👨🏽🤝👨🏿 Community helped me act in response to the profound effects systemic racism has on our world. Yes, the many studies and staggering statistics helped, but it is real people that support me in working through internalized racism, unlearning, learning, and growing in the way we all must when creating change. 👨🏽🤝👨🏿 Community organizing got me through feelings of rage and hopelessness in the face of so much world injustice (full disclosure—not FULLY through this one). 👩🏿🤝👩🏻 Online community got me through my son’s leukemia diagnosis while working full time mid-pandemic, something I could write many posts about. My point is any time I’ve ever had to do, learn, or face something hard, community— collective care, has gotten me through. Healthcare providers across specialties (doulas, nurses, doctors, mental health therapists, acupuncturists, etc), are facing incredible amounts of burnout and moral injury. As providers we both experience and perpetuate a great deal of harm. It is time we recognize that this is driven by the same systemic issues that fuel the health inequities we see. The mass exodus of providers and abysmal Black maternal health rates, are different sides of the same oppressive coin. Here is my response: Togather. The only collective care platform for health justice. A community for those who care, because you can't build a better world if you're burnt out. Built by and for healthcare providers. In a practical sense Togather is: ✅ A social networking app that provides an empowered space for connection and innovation. ✅ Live touch points via healing justice circles and networking events. ✅ Personalized support through mentorship. ✅ Accredited health justice education rooted in anti-racism, liberation, and intersectionality, with invaluable tools to use whether you’re a provider at the bedside, boardroom, or classroom. Togather is a conduit for building the community we need to heal ourselves and our patients, and a catalyst for the change we need to see in our healthcare system and world. Now, with community, I am pushing past self-doubt, what-ifs, and perfectionism, and announcing Togather. I feel incredibly proud of what Togather already is, and so much excitement for what is to come with the insights and support of you all. Here is how to support Togather today: 💌 Stay connected - Join our email list @ www.togathernow.com 📣 Amplify - Share this post with your networks! I’m looking forward to co-creating a better, more just healthcare system for our patients and our providers with you. #healthcareonlinkedin #nursesonlinkedin #jointogather

Leading Consultant on SkillsFuture & CET | Expert in SSG OR, WSQ CA, Non-WSQ CF and TPQA | 25+ Years in L&D
Anna Johnston could have been a doctor, earning a six-figure salary and enjoying the prestige that comes with the title. Instead, she chose a path that many would consider less glamorous - working in a nursing home as an activities coordinator. Her decision wasn’t about the money or the status; it was about something far more profound: giving the elderly a reason to smile, a sense of purpose, and a connection that the healthcare system often overlooks. But what does it say about our society that such a crucial role is so undervalued? Why do we glorify careers that come with big paychecks and impressive titles while ignoring those that truly touch lives? Johnston’s choice forces us to confront a harsh reality: our societal metrics of success are flawed. We celebrate the power to save lives but forget to honor those who help others truly live. It’s time to rethink what we consider important in our careers and in our communities. Are we so blinded by the allure of traditional success that we fail to recognize the worth of those who dedicate their lives to caring for others? If so, the question isn't whether Johnston made the wrong choice - it’s whether we, as a society, are making the right ones.
I could have been a doctor. But I chose this profession instead thanks to my grandpa

Fostering Compassion: Putting People First 💖 Reflecting on our mission here at Newton Healthcare, we realize that at the heart of it all is our care for people. We're dedicated to nurturing individuals across the spectrum of life - including those who need additional help to experience the fullness of life. Our engagement with these individuals transcends the routine of a job; it's about embracing a deep-seated obligation. Each interaction holds the potential for positive change, shining a beacon of hope in times of uncertainty and providing a supportive presence in a world that can often seem callous. This ethos permeates the fabric of our identity. Across our teams, from Healthcare Assistants to Nurses, each member brings a special mix of professional acumen and heartfelt concern. Our care goes beyond merely tending to physical ailments - it's about understanding the value and individuality of everyone we serve. On a recent #SeniorLiving industry practice call with my colleagues, we had an emotional discussion about the difficulties our clients in the space are up against. Staffing challenges, funding shortfalls, costly lawsuits, regulatory concerns, and carrier appetites were just some of the topics raised. These issues are not unique to senior living, but because this industry serves such a critical societal need, we have a deeply personal commitment to helping our clients. We have family members who are in senior care. We are looking ahead to a future where we ourselves may require these services. And when our clients struggle, we feel those struggles on an emphatic level. This opinion piece resonated a lot with me. It speaks to the importance of senior living organizations having strong partnerships. But the relationship is two-fold. Us partners must continue to advocate, source new solutions, and stay informed on the latest developments. Sometimes that means beating down locked doors, staying up way too late searching for that stone I haven't turned yet, and refusing to take "no" for an answer. Senior living can be a daunting area to work in. Overcoming the myriad challenges isn't easy, but empowering these organizations to succeed is so fulfilling. That's why I do what I do.
It’s time for senior living providers to forge new partnerships
