📢 Major Sustainable Building Groups Set Agenda for Next U.S. President
With Election Day 2024 approaching, a coalition of sustainable building organizations is rallying for change. The U.S. Green Building Council, New Buildings Institute, Institute for Market Transformation, and Carbon Leadership Forum have released an agenda urging the next administration to consider key policy solutions.
🎯This initiative aims to revitalize the commercial real estate sector hit hard by high interest rates, declining occupancy rates, and escalating costs.
Key recommendations include expanding the Sec. 48E Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit to energy efficiency investments, driving economic activity through retrofits, and ensuring parity for energy efficiency under tax codes. They also propose tax incentives for office-to-residential conversions, using low-embodied carbon materials, and improving indoor air quality.
"The proposed agenda offers practical steps for revitalizing our struggling downtowns, making buildings more resilient, and incorporating sustainable practices," says Peter Templeton, USGBC President. These federal actions aim to support both new and existing buildings, create jobs, reduce emissions, and improve public health.
