As part of the first-ever cohort of Capital Connection students, Saige Caldwell gained hands-on experience in her areas of interest through an internship with Georgetown Law’s Public Defense Clinics. “I grew a lot in my confidence and independence during the program. I also grew in my confidence in being successful post-grad. It was interesting to see all of us push ourselves in different ways – socially, academically, professionally.” Applications for Spring 2025 are open now! Learn more: boisestate.edu/sps/dc

The first in a series in which I grow increasingly aware of my mortality as we interview our current crop of interns.
It's a staple of every summer at LJC to welcome a new intern class to our offices! 👏 Working with students is always a ton of fun, and this year, we decided to put the class of 2024 to the test with some LJC trivia. Check out the first installment of our intern pop quiz as they tackle the trivia question: What year was LJC founded? 🤔 Here's a hint: while our firm was founded in 1999, it was incorporated with LJC in 2019. Check out their answers and let us know yours in the comments below! ⬇️

The kids are alright....but we need to support them! For the past three summers I've had the pleasure of discussing financial literacy and financial futures with Greenwood Project interns. The thoughts of this summer's interns, Anthony Armstead, Arelys Estrada, Adin Farmer, Imani Noel, Kai Washington, and Manny Wiley are insightful and important for all of us to consider. #InvestingInvolvesRisk

▶ Excited to share this video featuring the incredible Stacia Maynard , who brings insights from the NACE conference. Two powerful takeaways she mentions I encourage you to do your own research on: 1️⃣ Restorative Practices: which can significantly benefit you college career centers by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances student engagement and overall well-being. 2️⃣ "Yes, And" Concept: No matter what someone says to you, even if it's negative, you reply with "yes, and." This simple phrase can steer the conversation in a positive direction and allow you to add additional thoughts. 💡 Stacia highlights how reframing discussions around skills vs. degrees can benefit both students and employers. Instead of viewing these elements as opposing forces, adopting a "yes, and" approach can address the diverse needs of learners. Yes, traditional degrees provide structured learning and foundational knowledge And, practical skills gained through internships, projects, and real-world experiences are crucial in bridging the gap between theory and application.

A few months ago, we spoke with Carla Kersey, Project Development Coordinator at Kentucky Educational Development Corporation, who supports HS students through project-based internships. Here's a highlight from our conversation: "Project Based Learning is so much more than hands-on experiences in the classroom; it's also about workforce development." Q: Describe your initial perspective of the career you are interning at. After being an intern there for a few weeks, how have your beliefs changed, and what are they currently? A: When I first started my internship doing math intervention at the elementary school I wondered how effective that classroom situation really was and if it would actually help the students catch up to where they were supposed to be. I didn’t really understand how it worked and how to best help the kids understand. Now that Ive been at the elementary school for awhile I’ve been able to see how effective intervention is. I’ve seen the kids we work with grow so much and watching them start to really understanding something is one of my big highlights. Giving the kids a space where they can catch up outside the pressure of a classroom that might make them feel like they’re constantly falling behind us super important and really beneficial.
