National youth employment expert; passionate about community & opportunity for all, College Governor and Deputy Lieutenant
Providing data, evidence and insight to our Members about all things youth employment is exactly what we are here for. Youth Employment UK has expert knowledge across the whole youth employment landscape, what is driving youth unemployment, what the system issues are, what young people aged 11-30 including those who are NEET are telling us what works and does not work and of course what the impacts and plans are of policy and policy makers. Add in the expert insight we have on what makes #GoodYouthEmployment and the value of Membership speaks for itself. For 12 years we have been digging into the issues and solutions and given that youth unemployment is a growing issue, we absolutely need to see more of that expert insight put into practice by employers, providers and policy makers. Employers who understand the issues facing young people are much better equipped to ensure that their business is part of the solution and having a real people, social and future skills impact. We will keep adding value to our Members through our events, resources and research. If You’re Black or Brown and thinking of going to college, You Still Have Options. Excerpt from: 𝐈𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐨w❓𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟐 from Coalition4Justice "For some Black and brown students, earning a four-year degree is deemed a rite of passage. But for many, it is considered a privilege and out of reach. Whether you're the first in your family or one of a long line, applying to college can be daunting. While it’s true that some careers require a bachelor’s or graduate degree, there are enumerable good, well-paying career choices that can be had with a two-year associate degree, a certificate program, or a training program or apprenticeship in the skilled trades." 6moVery interesting reading especially the recommendations. A lot of suggestions around daily, reflective practices for the students and their involvement from the outset, parental involvement and more higher order thinking activities including a wider incorporation of Digital technologies, among others.
