The Inevitable Separation of Money and State?
Just as separating church and state protected religious freedom, Bitcoin might be paving the way for financial freedom.
Historically, both institutions have fostered large-scale collaboration and coordination among people.
However, keeping money free from political influence could be key to a fairer economic future. Is Bitcoin the tool we need to achieve this?

The Myth of the Self-Made Man
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s viral commencement speech to the graduating class at the University of Houston recently resurfaced on my feed. His key idea is “The Self-Made (Person) is a Myth”. We all stand on the shoulders of those who have come before. We become who we are because people – family, friends, mentors, and colleagues – were generous enough to steer us, support us, believe in us, promote us, and work hard for us. Recognizing others’ contributions to one’s success doesn’t diminish accomplishments, it amplifies them. It speaks to a self-awareness and humility that should be critical traits in all leaders.
In our “cult of personality” culture, we tend to attribute great accomplishments to a single individual. All too often, that individual buys into the myth, and their view of the world is distorted by the lens of their own perceived greatness and infallibility, diminishing what made them great in the first place.
Reflecting on the journeys of two lauded self-made men from the past and present reinforces Schwarzenegger’s key theme:
John D. Rockefeller – Rockefeller was encouraged to study mathematics, learn a strong work ethic, and embrace charity by his parents. His first business was started jointly with his neighbor who invested two thousand dollars in the partnership. His oil refining business was made possible because of the previous decades of inventions and developments in drilling and refining by several ingenious inventors and engineers. There is no question he had a unique drive, a brilliant mind, and a tremendous appetite for well calculated risk. Was he a self-made man?
Elon Musk – Musk comes from a wealthy South African family, who afforded him the best education and exposed him to entrepreneurship from an early age. He invested in Tesla after the company was founded by Eberhard and Tarpenning who developed the early technology. The production of the first Tesla roadster was stewarded by tech veteran Ze’ev Drori, and the US Department of Energy provided Tesla with a $465M loan in 2009. There is no question that Musk has a broad and audacious vision, a genius sense of timing for technology arcs, and the ability to capture public imagination like no other. Was he a self-made man?
Recognizing the contributions of those that help us doesn’t make us less, it makes us more. It helps us understand the power of doing the same in our communities. Schwarzenegger’s ability to capture this in such a compelling way is a testament to his self-awareness and sense of gratitude.
Who would you thank for helping you get to where you are?

During this #ParkinsonsAwarenessMonth, I am truly inspired by the incredible advocacy work of Michael J. Fox and his foundation, which has been at the forefront of research and support for Parkinson's patients and their families.
In my field of digital health, leaders like Chrystalina Antoniades are using novel digital biomarkers to monitor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. These promising technologies can track subtle changes in movement, speech, and other key indicators, helping to improve early detection and treatment. Let's continue to push boundaries and support innovative approaches to better understand and manage this disease. #datascience#digitalhealth
"I know Michael J. Fox. Like, I know him pretty damn well. He’s funny. He’s warm. He’s handsome and intensely smart. He also falls a lot. Not just because he has Parkinson’s. He falls a lot because he’s unafraid to fly." - Ryan Reynolds, MJFF Board member.
Please join us in congratulating our fearless founder, Michael J. Fox, for being recognized as one ofTIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2024. Michael's recognition in the issue is written by Ryan Reynolds, a dear friend of Michael and valued MJFF Board Member, who captures the impact that Michael has made on the world and the lives he has touched around him.
"I’ve watched him raise the bar for purpose and passion. It’d be kinda lazy to simply characterize him as the greatest champion of Parkinson’s research on the planet. He’s someone who helped my dad, along with millions of others, feel less alone. It’d be kinda lazy to simply regard him as a movie star who shaped the lives of people all over the planet with a uniquely electric wit and self-aware charm. He’s the sum of these beautiful parts. And so many more."
Couldn't agree more ✅😂
Potential reasons I always come across :
1. Insufficient and unclean data.
2. Focus on making things functional and less tilt towards UI/UX.
3. New to feature being demoed, and docs are just way too heavy for grasping initial core understanding.
4. Less time / Less focus on business perspective of demo.
