Life Flight NZ Partners with AMSL Aero to Pioneer Hydrogen-Powered Air Ambulances How will hydrogen-electric aircraft transform aeromedical services in Australasia? Life Flight New Zealand has signed a partnership with AMSL Aero to support the future of zero-emissions aeromedical operations using the Vertiia VTOL aircraft. This partnership marks a milestone for AMSL Aero’s hydrogen-powered Vertiia, which combines helicopter-like takeoff with fixed-wing flight efficiency and promises a range of up to 1,000 km. Life Flight’s CEO, Mark Johnston, highlighted the potential of Vertiia to reduce emissions while meeting the growing demand for aeromedical missions. "According to Tomasz Krysinski, the company’s head of innovation, Airbus has already demonstrated the system with its DisruptiveLab testbed aircraft delivering 250 kilowatts of power for two minutes. The Advanced Air Mobility Institute proudly announced the success of its two-day Global Advanced Air Mobility Forum (GAAMF) held on July 29th and 30th. This significant event attracted over 350 registered participants, featured more than 50 speakers, and saw representation from 45 countries, making it one of the largest virtual AAM conferences to date. Amin Vadafar, Institute Executive Assistant, commented, “The insights shared and the collaboration forged here will undoubtedly accelerate the integration of innovative AAM solutions into our cities, enhancing connectivity, sustainability, and economic growth.” He added, “Guided by our vision to educate and advocate for the broadest public benefit through the aviation ecosystem globally, our commitment to advancing this dynamic sector remains unwavering.” GAAMF, held biannually in winter and summer, serves as a vital platform for industry leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts to discuss and share advancements in the global AAM ecosystem. Following each forum, a Summary Report is compiled, featuring comprehensive summaries from all represented countries and key findings from their presentations, providing a crucial opportunity for sharing best practices across the industry. Institute Founder and President, Dan Grande Sloat, JD/MBA MRAeS, remarked, “The event has been a tremendous success, and we are thrilled with the level of engagement and collaboration among participants. The future of air mobility is bright, and we are proud to be at the forefront of driving innovation and progress in this exciting industry.” The AAM Institute, a nonprofit research center, is dedicated to protecting people, their rights, and the systems relied upon, while accelerating access to advanced air mobility technologies in an ethical and responsible manner.
