Public toilets are the unsung heroes of our public spaces. Unlike other pieces of social infrastructure such as libraries, community hubs or kindergartens, there are no legislative requirements, benchmarks or guidelines to provide accessible public toilets outside of buildings. Public toilets are critical pieces of social infrastructure that contribute to people's enjoyment of parks, reserves, streets and neighbourhoods. They are also important beacons of safety, inclusion and participation in our built environments. That's why we are so passionate about planning for public toilets. What does this look like in practice? Check out our latest Draft Public Toilet Strategy that we've developed in collaboration with Indigo Shire Council and diverse voices from across the Shire. https://lnkd.in/gWG9gzhj

🔥 Introducing Chester: Our Newest Facility Dog Bringing Comfort to Firefighters! 🔥 🐾 As part of our commitment to community support and mental wellness, I’m thrilled to share that Canines 4 Comfort has taken a bold step into uncharted territory: partnering with firefighters! Meet Chester, our remarkable facility dog who’s making a difference in the lives of these brave heroes. 👨🚒 Why Firefighters? Firefighters face unimaginable challenges daily—rushing into burning buildings, rescuing lives, and witnessing trauma. But what happens when they return to the station, exhausted and emotionally drained? Chester steps in. His wagging tail and soothing presence provide a sense of normalcy, a moment of respite amidst the chaos. 🐶 Chester’s Role: Chester isn’t just any dog; he’s a highly trained therapy dog. Unlike service dogs, who perform specific tasks for individuals, Chester’s mission is broader. He offers comfort, reduces anxiety, and promotes mental well-being. Whether it’s a tough day at the firehouse or a critical incident scene, Chester is there, tail thumping, ready to lend his furry support. 🙌 The Impact: Research shows that therapy dogs boost serotonin levels, reduce anxiety, and combat loneliness. Chester’s presence at firehouses brings solace, reminding our heroes that they’re not alone in their struggles. 📖 Read More: Curious about Chester’s journey? Dive into our latest article, where we share heartwarming stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and the magic of paws on duty. 1 🐾 Let’s celebrate Chester’s arrival and honor our firefighters—the unsung heroes who keep our communities safe. Together, we’re making a difference, one paw at a time.

Jeff Loomis thanks for sharing this article that deals eloquently with the tension between qualitative and quantitative results. It can be easy to dismiss those who still want "the Numbers", but this article illustrates how it completes the story of impact. The burden of effort should be placed upon those who determine "what numbers", to ensure that the request elegantly brings insight to question of impact and program quality. A valuable read!
Appreciated reflecting on this article to participate in Alberta Grantmakers Association conference panel conversation on ‘what are funders doing right and wrong’ - https://lnkd.in/gfBKWDaU. Thanks for moderating Allan Northcott!
