Starbucks just announced the 1st ever North American Barista Championships. Each US and Canadian location gets 1 nominee, which means 15K total participants. It all starts with Districts in March and ends in June at the Finals in Seattle where the winner is crowned. It’ll be Hogwarts House Cup meets Hunger Games, and the winner gets a trip to Costa Rica where Starbucks R&D kitchen is. Bloomberg calculated that there are 383 billion possible latte combos, so Starbucks probably figures their Baristas deserve some recognition for their concocting. But why is Starbucks really doing this? Because sometimes PR is really about HR. Unrest has been brewing at Starbs: Last year, 8K workers voted to unionize — demanding better pay, better hours, and less complex drinks. So think of this Barista Battle as more like the “goodwill games.” It’s about worker relations. Starbucks is hosting N.A. Barista Championships to show them appreciation, but also to stave off further unionization. The BIH Spotlight Awards are back, and nominations are now OPEN! 🌟 💫 For the third consecutive year, we invite you to nominate your colleagues, peers, and friends from the hospitality, food, and drinks industry for this prestigious accolade. The BIH Spotlight Awards recognise and celebrate ethnically diverse hospitality professionals' exceptional talent and achievements. There are various individual, business, and cuisine awards to choose from! For all 15 award categories, high-quality submissions are ESSENTIAL to ensure your nomination stands out, is considered for the shortlist, and, ultimately, is selected as a winner on the night. Our esteemed panel of industry-leading judges will select the winners for 13 of the 15 categories, while 2 winners will be chosen by public vote. Why do these awards exist❓ We decided to launch these awards after conducting an audit of all hospitality industry awards and finding that less than 2% of industry award winners were ethnically diverse. Having built a digital community of 14,000 over the past 4 years, we know that the talent is out there. We want these individuals to be visible, recognised, and celebrated for their remarkable contributions to our industry. Terms and conditions apply. Visit our website via the link in the comments for more details and to submit your nominations today! #awardsceremony #beinclusive #ukhospitality

I help ambitious women conquer self-doubt, unleash their superpowers, and achieve the careers and lives they desire 🌐 Executive Coach 🌐 Public Speaker 🌐 Podcast Host
I met Massimo Bottura, a Michelin-star chef, and learned a valuable lesson in humility and customer experience. I had dinner at Casa Maria Luigia, one of Massimo Bottura's renowned restaurants. The meal was incredible, but what stood out was Chef Bottura himself. He walked into the dining room and stopped at each table to speak with his guests. He shared stories, posed for photos, and made everyone feel valued. This was a master class in providing exceptional experiences. Despite his busy schedule, he took the time to engage with us personally. This gesture showed respect and humility. As a CEO and founder of Living While Leading, I strive to create similar experiences for my clients. It’s not just about the service I provide but how I make people feel. Key takeaways from this experience: - Engage personally: Take time to connect with your clients. - Show respect: Value their presence and contributions. - Be humble: No matter your success, stay grounded. These lessons are invaluable in building strong, lasting relationships. How do you ensure exceptional experiences for your clients? #Leadership #CustomerExperience #Humility

Dunkin Donuts 🍩 marked the beginning of my work life at the age of 16. Rising early, I'd often declare, "time to make the donuts." Passing by the exact location I worked at this weekend prompted my reflection on the invaluable lessons it taught me about business management and teamwork. - Acknowledge the pivotal roles of your team and customers in sustaining your business. - Emphasize the importance of a robust operational framework. This Dunkin Donuts operated 24 hours a day and supplied donuts to other locations. Any mishaps here affected multiple stores and customers. Effective communication and coordination were imperative for successful execution. - Take note of your customers' preferences, dislikes, moods, and triggers. I swiftly learned that preparing coffee exactly as my regular customers preferred, ready for them before they reached the counter, significantly brightened their day. - A warm smile and genuine inquiries such as "how are you?" or "safe commute?" laid the foundation for building relationships. - Extend the above principles to interactions with your co-workers and team. - Show support for your team by being present and willing to assist, even if the task is not within your designated role. #leadership #businessmanagement #teamwork #customerexperience #peoplefirst

Sometimes in our restaurants we get so focused on the big goal we forget to celebrate along the way. I've previously been guilty of this, therefore I've made it my intention this year to be celebrating those little wins. Your restaurant might not be #1 on TripAdvisor this week but have you improved on last week, or last month? If so, celebrate it. Your staff retention might not be at 100% for the quarter, but is it up on last quarter? If so, celebrate it. Your NPS might not be where you want it, but are you making strides in the right direction? Have you gone from 4.2 to 4.3? If so, CELEBRATE IT! 🍾 Celebrating the little wins along the way is how we get the continuous positive reinforcement to keep us on track for the big goals. It stops us giving in altogether. I'm 10 years off achieving my big goals, and when I do I'll be another 10 years off achieving my bigger goals. But along the way there are wins to celebrate. Yesterday I ticked over the 8k followers mark and also gained this little badge. Top F&B Operations Voice. It was never my goal, and frankly still isn't. But it does reinforce I'm on the right path. And that's enough. That's worth celebrating over a hot cup of coffee ☕️ 👌
